Posada del Bierzo is a village in the municipality of Carracedelo, in the region of El Bierzo, in the province of Leon, in Castile and Leon, (Spain). [1]

History

In the late 1950s construction of the Barcena reservoir  [ es ] forced the relocation of the inhabitants of two villages which were to be inundated, ancient Barcena and Posada del Rio. The result was the construction of Posada del Bierzo.

In the village fruit production predominates, particularly pears and apples. They are shipped to cooperatives and exported to various cities of Europe.

Castile and León is an autonomous community in northwestern Spain. The Province of Villafranca was a province of Spain created in the 1822 territorial division of Spain, during the Trienio Liberal of 1820–1823. With the restoration of absolutism, this territorial division was revoked 1 October 1823. The Palace of San Telmo is a historical edifice in Seville, southern Spain, formerly the Universidad de Mareantes, now is the seat of the presidency of the Andalusian Autonomous Government. Construction of the building began in 1682 outside the walls of the city, on property belonging to the Tribunal of the Holy Office, the institution responsible for the Spanish Inquisition. The Torre del Bierzo rail disaster occurred on 3 January 1944 near the village of Torre del Bierzo in the El Bierzo region of Spain's León province when three trains collided and caught fire inside a tunnel. Although the official death toll was 78, and at the time it was estimated to be 200–250, the most recent study has estimated it at no more than 100.

Unión Minera del Norte, S.A., also known by its acronym UMINSA, is Spain's leading company in the coal mining sector, with operations in the mining basins of León, Palencia and Asturias. It is owned by the controversial businessman from León, Victorino Alonso, and its registered office is in Madrid. It has a production of more than 2,000,000 tons of coal per year and employs nearly 1,500 workers.
