Pranita Talukdar was an Indian teacher, social worker and politician belonging to Indian National Congress. She was elected as a member of Assam Legislative Assembly as an Indian National Congress candidate from Sorbhog twice.

Biography

Talukdar was born in 1935. Her husband Ghaneshyam Talukdar was a member of Assam Legislative Assembly who established Barnagar College. [1]

Talukdar was the headmistress of Sorali Higher Secondary School and teacher of Barnagar College and Barpeta Sorali College. [1]

Talukdar was elected as a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from Sorbhog in 1967. [2] She elected again from Sorbhog in 1972. [3]

Talukdar also worked for women. She was the president of the Central Women and Children Welfare Association. [1] She received Stree Shakti Puraskar in 2013 for her contribution to women's empowerment. [4] [5] [6]

Talukdar died on 20 April 2019. [1]

Nari Shakti Puraskar Highest civilian honour for women in India

Nari Shakti Puraskar is an annual award given by the Ministry of Women and Child Development of the Government of India to individual women or to institutions that work towards the cause of women empowerment. The awards are presented by the President of India on International Women's Day, at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The awards were instituted in 1999 under the title of Stree Shakti Puraskar and were renamed and reorganised in 2015. There are given in six institutional and two individual categories, which carry a cash prize of rupees two-lakh and one-lakh, respectively.
