Originally named Scanraff, the refinery was taken into use in 1975. The site was selected because of its excellent natural harbour, and the facility can accept supertankers up to 500,000 tonnes deadweight (DWT). [1] In 2003, the facility was acquired by Preem. [2] Refined products are mainly transported from Preemraff Lysekil using tanker ships. There is no rail connection and the road connections are poor.
Preem is the largest supplier of petroleum products in Sweden and its two refineries, Preemraff Göteborg in Gothenburg, and Preemraff Lysekil in Lysekil represent 80 percent of Sweden's refining capacity. [3] The annual capacity of Preemraff Lysekil is around 11 million metric tons of crude oil. [4]
The highly visible flares, towers and chimneys also makes the refinery a navigation mark for vessels entering Brofjorden. The two highest chimneys are 165 m (541 ft) tall. [5]

Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna Göteborg, commonly known as IFK Göteborg, IFK or simply Göteborg, is a Swedish professional football club based in Gothenburg. Gåsö is an island in the Swedish province of Bohuslän, county of Lysekil. Gåsö is situated at the entrance of the Gullmarn fjord and is a part of the Gullmarn nature reserve. The Gåsö archipelago consists partly of two larger islands, Gåsö and Storön, and partly of a large number of smaller islands. The old fishing village on the main island is today only inhabited during summer, when the population reaches approximately 250 people. The Gåsö archipelago has many natural harbours and is a popular destination for boating tourists.

Smögen Whisky is a distillery in Sweden which produces single malt whisky and gin. Established in 2009 by Pär Caldenby, a lawyer, whisky enthusiast and author of Enjoying Malt Whisky, the Smögen Distillery produced its first spirit in 2010 after receiving a grant of almost a million Swedish krona from the government. The distillery is located on a farm near Hunnebostrand, on the west coast of Sweden, north of Gothenburg. The distillery is named after Smögen Island, which is nearby. Designed largely by Pär Caldenby the distillery has a 900-litre wash still, a 600-litre spirit still, and a production capacity of 35000 litres. The first bottling, of a three-year-old cask strength single malt whisky, took place in 2013. The whisky, "Smögen Primör", won a silver medal at the 2014 Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival.

Brofjorden is a fjord in Lysekil Municipality, Bohuslän, Sweden. It cuts into Västra Götaland County in a southwest–northeasterly direction between the Stångenäset and Härnäset peninsulas. Situated between Gullmarn and Åbyfjorden, it is the smallest of these fjords.
The Lysekil Line is a branch railway of the Bohus Line, connecting Smedberg and Lysekil in the Swedish province of Bohuslän. Opened in 1913, it is today a single-track, electrified standard gauge line 35 kilometres (22 mi) long. Most of it is located within the Stångenäset Hundred, closely paralleling county road 162.
