Prioria, formally known as Prioria Robotics Inc., was an American corporation that originally focused on designing embedded sensor processing products and services. Established in Gainesville, Florida in 2003, Prioria transitioned from embedded systems to the design and development of unmanned aircraft. The company would go on to develop multiple Unmanned aircraft platforms as well as offering commercial services.

The first unmanned aircraft developed, sold, and supported the Maveric Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (also called an autonomous Micro Air Vehicle), [1] [2] while also maintaining a services division focused on defense focused research and development of embedded sensor processing systems. After Maveric, the Company developed Leviathan, a larger fixed wing UAS and the Hex Rotor. In 2014 the company transitioned to offering commercial services.

Prioria had a few key contributions to field of unmanned system:

  1. Maveric was the first drone to offer autonomous vision based collision avoidance processed on board the aircraft.[ citation needed ]
  2. Prioria was the first company to be Aerovironment in a Program of Record for small UAS. [3] Though Aerovironment would win it back in the next cycle.

Maveric benefited from a bendable wing technology that Prioria licensed from the University of Florida. Developed by Dr Peter Ifju [4]

Onboard collision avoidance

Prioria developed an onboard collision avoidance system [5]

Prioria filed for bankruptcy in February 2018 [6] after losing a major program of record for the Leviathan aircraft to Lockheed Martin in the fall of 2018.

The AeroVironment Wasp III Small Unmanned Aircraft System is a miniature UAV developed for United States Air Force special operations to provide a small, light-weight vehicle to provide beyond-line-of-sight situation awareness. The aircraft is equipped with two on-board cameras to provide real-time intelligence to its operators. It is also equipped with GPS and an Inertial Navigation System enabling it to operate autonomously from takeoff to recovery. It was designed by AeroVironment Inc., and was first added to the Air Force inventory in 2007. There are two Wasp variants: the traditional version that lands on land, and a version that lands into the sea or fresh water. The Air Force accepted the Wasp AE in late May 2012, and the U.S. Marine Corps revealed in January 2013 that they had ordered the Wasp AE. The Wasp AE is designated as the RQ-12A.

Unmanned aircraft system simulation focuses on training pilots to control an unmanned aircraft or its payload from a control station. PrecisionHawk is a commercial drone and data company. Founded in 2010, PrecisionHawk is headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina with another global office in Toronto, Canada and satellite offices around the world. PrecisionHawk is a manufacturer of drones (Lancaster) and has more recently focused heavily on developing software for aerial data analysis (DataMapper) and drone safety systems (LATAS). PrecisionHawk is a member of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration Pathfinder Initiative and the NASA UTM Program. An angel investor in the company, Bob Young, founder of Red Hat, became CEO in August 2015. In August 2016, PrecisionHawk became the first U.S. company to receive an FAA exemption to commercially fly drones beyond the operator's visual line of sight.

RedKite is a lightweight, airborne wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) sensor developed by Logos Technologies, a defense contractor based in Fairfax, Virginia. The system is designed for force protection, border security, disaster response and other missions. Weighing less than 35 pounds, RedKite is equipped with a 50-plus megapixel electro-optical camera and an onboard, eight-hour data processing/storage unit. This allows users to both image a city-sized area as well as conduct analyses of live and recorded imagery in the air, in real time.
