Proparco is a development finance institution partly owned by the French Development Agency (AFD) and private shareholders from the developed countries.

PROPARCO promotes private investment in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East to reach the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). PROPARCO finances operations which are economically viable, financially profitable, environmentally sustainable and socially equitable. [1] As of 2016, its shareholders' capital exceeded €693 million (US$773 million). [2]

From 2019, Proparco is participating in the Choose Africa initiative launched jointly with AFD to accelerate the growth of African SMEs, which consists of making available 2.5 billion euros over 4 years: 1.5 billion in bank loans and guarantees and 1 billion in equity investments in SMEs (direct investments or through private equity funds). [3] In 2020, to play its part in the response to the COVID-19 crisis, Proparco is adding €1 billion under the Choose Africa Resilience plan. [4]

Water supply and sanitation in Senegal is characterized by a relatively high level of access compared to most of Sub-Saharan Africa. One of its interesting features is a public-private partnership (PPP) that has operatedin Senegal since 1996, with Senegalaise des Eaux (SDE), a subsidiary of Saur International, as the private partner. It does not own the water system but manages it on a 10-year lease contract with the Senegalese government. Between 1996 and 2014, water sales doubled to 131 million cubic meters per year and the number of household connections increased by 165% to more than 638,000. According to the World Bank, "the Senegal case is regarded as a model of public-private partnership in sub-Saharan Africa". Another interesting feature is the existence of a national sanitation company in charge of sewerage, wastewater treatment and stormwater drainage, which has been modeled on the example of the national sanitation company of Tunisia and is unique in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Amadou Hott is the Special Envoy of the President of the African Development Bank for the Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa. His is a Senegalese economist and investment banker, and served as Minister of Economy, Planning and International Cooperation of Senegal in the Fourth Sall government from April 2019 to September 2022. He was formerly the Vice President of the African Development Bank's Power, Energy, Green Growth and Climate Change Complex, a position he held from November 2016 until his Senegalese government appointment. Hott's career has spanned more than 20 years in areas including structured finance, sovereign fund management, investment banking, fundraising, infrastructure and the development of integrated energy solutions.

The Nachtigal Hydroelectric Power Station is a 420 megawatt run-of-the-river hydroelectric power station under development in Cameroon across the Sanaga River, which harnesses the energy of the Nachtigal Falls. The development rights were granted to Nachtigal Hydro Power Company (NHPC), a company owned by a consortium comprising (a) Électricité de France (b) International Finance Corporation and (c) the Government of Cameroon. A 35-year power purchase agreement is in place, between Eneo Cameroon S.A. and NHPC.
