Prospector Baseball Group (PBG) are the owners of several Minor League Baseball teams, including the Akron RubberDucks; Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp; and the Lancaster Stormers.
The company was founded in 2025 by John Abbamondi and Ben Boyer. Abbamondi is the former Chief executive officer of the Brooklyn Nets and BSE Global. [1] [2] Abbamondi was also the former senior director of labor economics working for Major League Baseball in New York, the assistant general manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, and the VP of strategy and business analysis for the San Diego Padres. [3] joined the Cardinals as assistant GM.Boyer is a private entrepreneur and investor who co-founded Tenaya Capital, R‑Zero, and Honor Pet. [4] [5]
In October 2025, Prospector Baseball Group purchased the Lancaster Stormers, an Independent baseball league team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. [5] [6] In December 2025, Prospector Baseball Group acquired the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, [7] a Triple-A baseball team in the International League of Minor League Baseball, and the Akron RubberDucks, [8] a Double-A baseball team in the Eastern League of Minor League Baseball. [9] The Jumbo Shrimp, an affiliate of the Miami Marlins, were acquired from Ken Babby of Fast Forward Sports Group. [10] [11] The Rubber Ducks, an affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians, were also acquired from Babby, who sold the two minor league teams in order to purchase a share of the Tampa Bay Rays. [12]
