James Alan Gell is an American who was wrongfully convicted of first-degree murder in 1998 and sentenced to death in Bertie County, North Carolina, at the age of 22. He served nine years as an inmate on death row before being acquitted in a second trial in 2004; he was freed from prison and exonerated that year. He was the 113th person to be freed from death row in the United States.
Larry Davis, later known as Adam Abdul-Hakeem, was a man from New York City who gained notoriety in November 1986 for his shootout in the South Bronx with officers of the New York City Police Department, in which six officers were shot. Davis, asserting self-defense, was acquitted of all charges aside from illegal gun possession. Davis was later convicted in April 1991 of a Bronx drug dealer's 1986 murder. In 2008, Davis died via stabbing by a fellow inmate.

A familicide is a type of murder or murder-suicide in which an individual kills multiple close family members in quick succession, most often children, spouses, siblings, or parents. In half the cases, the killer lastly kills themselves in a murder-suicide. If only the parents are killed, the case may also be referred to as a parricide. Where all members of a family are killed, the crime may be referred to as family annihilation.
On the morning of March 5, 2008, Eve Marie Carson was abducted, robbed and shot to death in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States where she was a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Carson had been studying in her student house when Demario James Atwater and Laurence Alvin Lovette ambushed her, forced her into a car and stole $700 from her card. After taking the money, Atwater and Lovette dragged her into the woods before shooting her several times with a handgun. When this did not kill Carson, Atwater murdered her with a fatal shot from a shotgun to the side of her head, before fleeing the scene.
Betty Lafon Neumar was an American woman charged with arranging the murder of her fourth husband, Harold Gentry, who died in 1986. The dead man's brother, Al Gentry, had, for 22 years prior to Mrs. Neumar's arrest in 2007, urged police to investigate his death. Following this arrest, and learning of the fact that Neumar had had five husbands in total who had all died, the case generated much media interest on the part of the news media in the United States, who dubbed Neumar the "Black Widow". On June 13, 2011, Mrs. Neumar died in an Alexandria, Louisiana hospital of cancer prior to her trial.

The murder of Renisha Marie McBride, a 19-year-old African American teenager, occurred on November 2, 2013, in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, United States. Renisha McBride crashed her car while intoxicated at a street in Detroit, and then walked to a neighborhood in Dearborn Heights where she knocked on the door of a house. The homeowner, 54-year-old Theodore Wafer, shot McBride with a shotgun. Wafer contended that the shooting was accidental and that he thought his home was being broken into after he heard her banging on his door at 4:42 in the morning.
Natalio Alberto Nisman was an Argentine lawyer who worked as a federal prosecutor, noted for being the chief investigator of the 1994 car bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires, which killed 85 people, the deadliest terrorist attack in Argentina's history. On 18 January 2015, Nisman was found dead at his home in Buenos Aires, one day before he was scheduled to report on his findings before a Congress inquiry with supposedly incriminating evidence against high-ranking officials of the then-current Argentinian government including former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, regarding the Memorandum of understanding between Argentina and Iran.

In November 2024, Sharif's father, Urfan Sharif, admitted to her killing. On 11 December 2024, Urfan Sharif and his wife Beinash Batool were found guilty of murdering Sharif.
