The schools implement a curriculum aligned with the Common Core State Standards.
Public Prep is in[ when? ] the second year of a three-year timeline for the Curriculum Development Initiative focused on establishing an interdisciplinary, knowledge-based curriculum in all content areas — including fitness and the arts.
Beginning in Kindergarten, students are taught science five days a week by a dedicated science teacher. In the 14-15 school year, more than 75 students engaged in science and/or engineering programming at Cornell University, West Point, the US Naval Academy, i3 STEM Camps, and the Liberty Science Center. Federal law forbids gender discrimination. However, the U.S. Department of Education has provided nonregulatory guidance to the effect that if comparable facilities are provided for both boys and girls then single-sex schools are permitted, and comparable facilities are, both at Excellence Charter School of Bedford Stuyvesant and in other schools in the city, including for boys only. State law allows single-sex schools (Education Law subdiv. 2854(2)). [4]

The Chief Executive Officer is Ian Rowe. Prior to joining Public Prep in 2010, Rowe was with the Gates Foundation, MTV, and The White House USA Freedom Corps office.[ citation needed ]
Public Prep is governed by a Board of Trustees; the Public Prep Network Board is the charter management organization that supports and manages the schools, while the Public Prep Academies Board is the separate board that oversees individual schools. [6]
Public Prep schools are tuition-free. Charter schools are provided public per pupil revenue reimbursements. It is the second year of incremental increases of charter school per pupil expenditure in New York City. Public Prep schools receive $13,877 per pupil in FY 15-16, and are expected to receive $14,027 per pupil in FY 16-17. [7]
Girls Prep was founded in 2005 by Eric Grannis, Bryan Lawrence, and Miriam Lewis Raccah. Public Prep was established in 2009 to support Girls Prep Lower East Side, its replication school in the Bronx, and future public schools. [8]
Public Prep (as Girls Prep) is a member of the National Coalition of Girls' Schools. [9]

Public Prep schools are tuition-free.
Students are accepted by a random lottery. Enrollment preference is given to applicants with siblings enrolled in the Public Prep school to which they are applying, if they live in the district of the school to which they are applying, or to applicants who reside in approved NYCHA Housing Developments.[ citation needed ]
The school's management reported, "100% of Girls Prep 3rd and 4th graders scored advanced or proficient on the New York State math & science exams", [1] and "98% of third grade students and 92% of fourth grade students scored advanced or proficient on the New York State ELA ["English Language Arts"] exam." [1] As comparisons, it reported, "[i]n Community School District 1 where Girls Prep [in Manhattan] is located, 91.9% of third graders and 82.8% of fourth graders scored advanced or proficient on the math exam. On the ELA exam, 70.5% of District 1 third graders and 69.5% of fourth graders scored advanced or proficient. In New York City, 91.1% of third graders and 84.4% of fourth graders scored advanced or proficient in Math while 69% of third and fourth graders scored advanced or proficient in ELA." [1]
In 2008, every 3rd and 4th grade student—100%—scored as proficient in math, while 92.0% of 4th graders and 97.7% of 3rd graders scored as proficient in English. By comparison, the whole district did less well, the proficient in English being only 69.5% of 4th graders and 70.5% of 3rd graders and in math 82.8% of 4th graders and 91.9% of 3rd graders. The difference between district-wide scores and Girls Prep scores thus ranges from 8.1% to 27.2%, all of them in Girls Prep students' favor. [11]

The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was the fourth Texas state standardized test previously used in grade 3-8 and grade 9-11 to assess students' attainment of reading, writing, math, science, and social studies skills required under Texas education standards. It is developed and scored by Pearson Educational Measurement with close supervision by the Texas Education Agency. Though created before the No Child Left Behind Act was passed, it complied with the law. It replaced the previous test, called the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS), in 2002.
Tempe Preparatory Academy is a public charter school in Tempe, a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona in the United States. Founded in 1996, Tempe Preparatory Academy offers a Great Books, core liberal arts curriculum centered on Western tradition, history, language, and literature. Its motto is Verum, Pulchrum, Bonum, meaning Truth, Beauty, Goodness. It is also the founding model for the Great Hearts Academies schools, with which it is otherwise unaffiliated. Tempe Prep is an independently-governed public charter school. Since 2015, the headmaster has been Wayne 'Richy' Richard Porter. Past headmasters include Thomas Butler, Andrew Zwernaman, Daniel Scoggin, George Lowe, Ron Bergez, Julie Boles, Hugh Hallman, and David Baum.
In New York State, Regents Examinations are statewide standardized examinations in core high school subjects. Students are required to pass these exams to earn a Regents Diploma. To graduate, students are required to have earned appropriate credits in a number of specific subjects by passing year-long or half-year courses, after which they must pass at least five Regents examinations in some of the subject areas. For higher-achieving students, a Regents with Advanced designation and an Honors designation are also offered. Students with disabilities or enrolled in an English as a Second Language program are able to earn a local diploma.
The High School for Math, Science and Engineering at City College is one of the nine specialized high schools in New York City, United States. Ranked as the #1 high school in New York, it caters to highly gifted students from across the state. It is located within the campus of the City College of New York (CCNY).
Wyomissing Area Junior/Senior High School is a secondary school serving the Wyomissing Area School District. Located in the borough of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, United States, the school has approximately 900 students in grades seven through twelve. WAHS has been included in Newsweek's list of top 1,200 public high schools in the United States annually since 2006.
Bronx Preparatory Charter School is a public middle and high school in the South Bronx. Comprising students in grades 5-12, Bronx Prep graduated its first class of seniors in June 2007. Advanced Placement (AP) Statistics is a college-level high school statistics course offered in the United States through the College Board's Advanced Placement program. This course is equivalent to a one semester, non-calculus-based introductory college statistics course and is normally offered to sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school.

The Salk School of Science is a renowned junior high school in Gramercy, Manhattan, New York City and is a highly rigorous and competitive school. For the class of 2023, the admissions rate was just above 4%. It was founded in 1995 as a unique collaboration between the New York University School of Medicine and the New York City Department of Education. The goal of the school is to encourage an enthusiasm for, and the development of abilities in, the sciences, particularly the medical and biological sciences. Science and math are specialties at the school, including special classes for it and after-school programs. A particular aim is to encourage city children to aim for better high schools and colleges. It is located on the top two floors of the P.S. 40 building on East 20th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues in Manhattan.

Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School is a K–12 school located at 10 New Bond St., Worcester, Massachusetts, United States in former Heald Machine Company buildings. The school was founded in 1998.
The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) is a standardized test administered in public schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Students in grades 3-8 are assessed in English language arts skills and mathematics. Students in grades 4 and 8 are also assessed in skills relating to natural science, including the field of data interpretation and analysis. Since 2013, high school students have taken the Keystone Exam in place of the PSSA for their standardized testing. The PSSA's were made by a company in New Jersey. The PSSA is written, owned and administered by Pearson Education. There are reporting categories for each subject which list eligible content to be tested in each grade. Assessment Anchors specify what is considered eligible content for each grade level tested. A Proficient or Advanced level is needed to be able to qualify as passing the PSSA.
Bronxville Union Free School District is a public school district serving the Village of Bronxville, Westchester County, New York. In 2023, 1603 students were enrolled across the district's elementary, middle and high schools. Bronxville High School was named the 10th best public high school in New York State for 2024. The high school is also in the top 100 high schools in the country according to US News and is the highest ranked "open enrollment" high school in New York State.
The Cranberry Area School District is a small, rural, public school district which serves the residents of Cranberry Township, Pinegrove Township and Rockland Township in Venango County, Pennsylvania. Cranberry Area School District encompasses approximately 155 square miles (400 km2). According to 2000 federal census data, it serves a resident population of 9,698. In 2009, the per capita income of district residents was $16,307, while the median family income was $39,203 a year. In the Commonwealth, the median family income was $49,501 and the United States median family income was $49,445, in 2010. Per school district officials, in school year 2007-08 the Cranberry Area School District provided basic educational services to 1271 pupils through the employment of 115 teachers, 77 full-time and part-time support personnel, and 7 administrators. In 2006, the 1,308 student population was 98% white, 1% black, 1% Asian, Native American <0.1% and <0.2% Hispanic. The Cranberry Area School District received more than $9 million in state funding, for school year 2007-08.
Charter schools in New York are independent, not-for-profit public schools operating under a different set of rules than the typical state-run schools, exempt from many requirements and regulations. Any student eligible for public schools can apply.
Weir Senior High School is a secondary public high school in the town of Weirton, West Virginia. It was established in 1916. Today, Weir High School is home to roughly 510 students in grades 9 through 12. It is a part of the Hancock County school district. The school has been named a school of excellence and a national blue ribbon school. Its curriculum is broad and consists of career clusters designed to help students determine a path of higher education.
Crescent City Schools is a charter management organization (CMO) based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Crescent City Schools is part of a movement in New Orleans to transform one of the worst school systems in the country. In the fall of 2010, Crescent City Schools received a Type 5 charter from the state of Louisiana to transform a failing school in New Orleans. In February 2011, Crescent City Schools was assigned to Harriet Tubman, a K-8 school in Orleans Parish, and assumed operations there on July 1, 2011. In 2012, the organization was awarded the expanded charter for Akili Academy of New Orleans and the charter for Paul B. Habans Elementary. Habans opened as Paul Habans Charter School in July 2013.
