Public Relations Consultants Association of India (PRCAI) [1] is a trade organization that represents India's public relations consultancy sector. It is the summit body for official communications and public relations practices in India. It was formed in October 2001 to grow, represent, and support India's public relations consultancy sector in international practices. It also provides a forum for government, public bodies, industry associations, trade, and others to confer with public relations consultants as a body. [2] It is an internationally recognized organization that offers official membership to all PR practitioners who abide by the basic criteria devised by the association. [3] [4]

Establishment

PRCAI was established on October 4, 2001. On the lines of the Public Relations and Communications Association in the United Kingdom, it was formed and mooted by various public relations firms in India. It is affiliated with the International Consultancy Communications Organization (ICCO) which is an international association for all national communication consultancy organizations headquartered in UK. [5]

Members

Members include professionals from Avian WE, Edelman, Corporate Voice, Weber Shandwick, Genesis BCW, MSL, Archetype, Good Relations India, Ogilvy PR, Ruder Finn, Value 360 Communications, On Purpose, and Adfactors PR, among others. [6]

Ethics

The team has devised self-regulatory guidelines on ethics and standards norms. In 2011, PRCAI aligned with European Public Affairs Consultancies Association (EPACA) to formulate norms for government engagement activities to ensure a higher level of transparency. [7] The members, speakers and associates that PRCAI represent belong to corporate firms, agencies, freelance communications professionals, public affairs organizations, Digital PR firms and professional services firms.

Recent achievements

PRCAI has recently released the ‘PRCAI Trends Report 2013’ that is addressed towards issues surrounding the PR industry in India. The report consists of data collected from around 54 PR executives, including CEOs and chairmen from India. This PRCAI report identified growth challenges for 2013 like creating new demand, managing client expectations, hiring new resources, and managing costs. [8]

It is the messages issued by a corporate organization, body or institute to its audiences, such as employees, media, channel partners and the general public. Organizations aim to communicate the same message to all its stakeholders, to transmit coherence, credibility and ethics.

Ruder Finn is a public relations firm with headquarters in the United States and China. It is a large privately owned communications agency, serving corporations, governments, and non-profits. It also has offices in San Francisco, London, Washington, D.C., Singapore, and several Indian metro areas including the National Capital Region.

Chime Communications Limited is a marketing services company headquartered in Westminster, London, England. Chime is the holding company for companies which include sports marketing, public relations, advertising, digital, marketing, research, corporate responsibility and healthcare communications.

Burson Cohn & Wolfe is a multinational public relations and communications firm, headquartered in New York City. In February 2018, parent WPP Group PLC announced that it had merged its subsidiaries Cohn & Wolfe with Burson-Marsteller. The combined agency is now known as Burson Cohn & Wolfe.

Dr. (Prof.) Kewal Krishan Anand was a management consultant in India. After completing his post-doctoral training at Harvard University in the US, he returned to India as founding Professor at IIM Ahmedabad from 1965 to 1969. Thereafter, he set up the HR department at Larsen & Toubro, a large industrial group in India, as founding Chief Organization Manager from 1969 to 1973. Barnet & Reef Associates public relations firm was based out of New York City, founded in 1958 by Sylvan M. Barnet Jr. and Arthur Reef. Known for creating an international public relations network entitled PR International, which was essentially Barnet & Reef's operating organization abroad, Barnet & Reef worked in the international market until it merged with Harshe-Rotman & Druck in 1964. After a series of mergers in the 1980s, it became part of what is now Ruder Finn.

Rajesh Gopinathan is the outgoing CEO and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), an Indian IT services and consulting organization and one of the country's largest employers. He was elevated to the role of Chief Executive in February 2017 after serving as the Chief Financial Officer since 2013. Rajesh is one of the youngest CEOs in the Tata Group.

Sharif D Rangnekar is a communications consultant, a former journalist and human rights activist. He is the ex-CEO and ex-chairman of Integral PR. Sharif has been the chairperson and President of the Public Relations Consultants Association of India (PRCAI). Sharif is also the founder of Friends of Linger - a concept band. The band released two songs Head Held High which is dedicated to the LGBTQ community in India, and Miss you, portraying a love story between two gay men. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave Miss you an A certificate, and found 10 seconds of video objectionable. The Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) later rescinded the directive from CBFC. Rangnekar published his first book Straight to Normal with Rupa Publications.
