Public Sector Management Program

The Public Sector Management Program in Australia is a cooperative tertiary management learning approach used by the State and Territory Governments in cooperation with the Australian Federal Government.

The PSMP is a four-module management training program undertaken by Public Service Managers who come from either Local, State or Federal Public Service positions. It is managed within each Australian State and the final qualification earned was a Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Management from Flinders University, SA. The course was organised by the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) from 2011 to 2014 and QUT has been given the right to run the course again from 2015 to 2019.

Graduates of the PSMP are eligible for credit into further post-graduate programs at the Graduate Diploma, Masters, Masters (Honours) and Doctorate level.

The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is the primary criterion for domestic student entry into undergraduate courses in Australian public universities. It was gradually introduced to most states and territories in 2009–10 and has since replaced the Universities Admission Index, Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Rank, Tertiary Entrance Rank and the Overall Position. It is a percentile ranking between 0.00 and 99.95 which shows student’s relative position compared to all other students in the age group of 16 to 20 years for that year. Though ATARs are calculated independently by each state, they are all considered equivalent. Since some students quit studying early or do not qualify for an ATAR in their state, the average ATAR amongst students who achieve one is 70.00. Admission to universities is granted based on the "selection rank" calculated by each university based on its own unique criteria. Selection ranks are a combination of ATAR and additional points based on universities' own criteria used for selecting students such as a "personal statement, a questionnaire, a portfolio of work, an audition, an interview or a test". Some universities also provide additional points on the basis of disadvantage such as for rural or Indigenous Australian applicants.

Life imprisonment in Australia is the most severe punishment handed down in the country. It is handed down for serious criminal offences by the State and Territory Supreme Courts in Australia. The vast majority of convictions punished by life imprisonment are for murder. Bush Blitz is a species discovery program conducting scientific surveys in Australian terrestrial and marine environments to document known and new fungi, plants and animals. Bush Blitz is managed through Parks Australia and the Australian Biological Resources Study. The program began in 2010, the International Year of Biodiversity, involving specialist taxonomists, indigenous communities, rangers and landowners, teachers, students and BHP Billiton employees.
