Y Wladfa, also occasionally Y Wladychfa Gymreig, refers to the establishment of settlements by Welsh immigrants in Patagonia, beginning in 1865, mainly along the coast of the lower Chubut Valley. In 1881, the area became part of the Chubut National Territory of Argentina which, in 1955, became Chubut Province.

Guillermo Rawson was a medical doctor and politician in nineteenth-century Argentina. In 1862, when he was the Interior Minister of Argentina, he met Captain Love Jones-Parry and Lewis Jones, who were on their way to Patagonia to investigate whether it was suitable for the creation of a Welsh settlement there. Rawson came to an agreement with them, and this resulted in the creation of a colony in the Chubut Valley in the following years. The city of Rawson, the capital of the province of Chubut, was named after him.

The Argentine Chubut Province, through which the river flows, is named after it. Welsh settlers called the river "Afon Camwy", meaning "twisting river".
The Prince Charles Mountains are a major group of mountains in Mac. Robertson Land in Antarctica, including the Athos Range, the Porthos Range, and the Aramis Range. The highest peak is Mount Menzies, with a height of 3,228 m (10,591 ft). Other prominent peaks are Mount Izabelle and Mount Stinear. These mountains, together with other scattered peaks, form an arc about 420 km (260 mi) long, extending from the vicinity of Mount Starlight in the north to Goodspeed Nunataks in the south.

Spartan Glacier is a short valley glacier lying between Callisto Cliffs and Tombaugh Cliffs on the east side of Alexander Island, Antarctica. The glacier was first mapped by the Overseas Surveys Directorate from satellite imagery supplied by U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration in cooperation with U.S. Geological Survey. Named by United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee after the British dog team known as "The Spartans," used in ascending this glacier, 1969. This is one of the few glaciers in Antarctica to be named after a dog team.
Bachtold Glacier is an Antarctic glacier flowing north from Mount Chaudoin, Gonville and Caius Range, into the lower part of Cotton Glacier. The glacier drains the broad slopes between Killer Ridge and Red Ridge. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names after Harry W. Bachtold, US Navy, who at the time was a member of the construction crew which built the original Little America V Station and the original Byrd Station in the 1955–57 pre-IGY period.
National Route 25 is a 534-kilometer-long paved highway that runs through the center of Chubut Province, Argentina. It extends from the juncture with National Route 40 in Tecka to the bridge on the Chubut River in the city of Rawson. The highway crosses the Patagonian Steppe, joining sparsely populated areas.
Boca Toma, also called Boca de la Zanja, is a small weir on the Chubut River in Chubut Province, Argentina completed in 1919. It is a wall that causes a steep drop in the river, allowing water to be diverted into irrigation canals. Because the area has very low rainfall, this dam allows irrigation in the river valley. The Boca Toma is located a few kilometers downstream from Dique Florentino Ameghino in Gaiman Department.
