Puja Tomar (born 25 November 1995), is an Indian professional mixed martial artist who currently competes in the Strawweight division of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). tomar became the Third person from India, to get a UFC contract . Tomar is a five-time National wushu championship, she also had a background in Karate and Taekwondo and won multiple medals in both disciplines. She became one of the most popular faces in Indian Mixed Martial Arts [2] [3] Recently, MMA fighter Puja Tomar will become the first Indian woman [4] to land a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Early and personal life

Puja Tomar, the daughter of Late Ramkumar Tomar and Babita Tomar, was born in Muzaffarnagar Uttar Pradesh. She has two siblings, two elder sisters named Anjali Tomar (Nurse by profession) & Anu Tomar (Doctor by profession). Her mother, who is a housewife.

She took up Wushu at the age of six to express herself and won many medals in National and International competitions. Pooja previously represented India in the World Wushu Championship 2015 [5] held at Jakarta, Indonesia. [6] She was 5 times National Wushu Champion. [7]

She also had a background in Karate and Taekwondo and won multiple medals in both disciplines. She became one of the most popular faces in Indian Mixed Martial Arts.

ONE Championship

In August 2017, Tomar signed with ONE Championship with the intention of making her mixed martial arts debut. [8] Tomar made her mixed martial arts debut against Muay Thai champion Stamp Fairtex at ONE Championship: A New Tomorrow November 2019 and lost the fight by TKO at 4.27. [9]

Team Lakay, is a martial arts group based in La Trinidad, Philippines. Officially named Lakay MMA Top Team, it is also known as Lakay Wushu or Lakay MMA. Now defunct promotions that featured female fighters were Valkyrie, and Smackgirl. Professional mixed martial arts organizations in the United States that invite women to compete are industry leader Ultimate Fighting Championship, the all female Invicta Fighting Championships, Resurrection Fighting Alliance, Bellator Fighting Championships, and Legacy Fighting Championship.
