Pulsant is a digital edge infrastructure provider, specialising in cloud, colocation and connectivity services. [1]

History

Established in 1995 as EdNET, an ISP, the company was rebranded as Lumison in 2004. [2] Lumison was acquired by Bridgepoint Development Capital in 2010 [3] and Pulsant was formed in 2011, following the integration of Lumison, a managed service provider; Dedipower, a managed hosting company; and Bluesquare Data, a datacentre operator. [4] [5] [6] Pulsant acquired Scottish-based colocation company ScoLocate in 2012. [7]

Antin Infrastructure Partners Acquire Pulsant from Oak Hill Capital and Scottish Equity Partners in 2021. [8] Previously the company was refinanced by Oak Hill Capital from 2014 - 2021. [9] In 2015 Pulsant acquired the consulting arm of Spinnaker Red, [10] and in 2016 acquired IT infrastructure services company Onyx. [11]

Pulsant announced in mid 2017 that it completed the acquisition of LayerV, a specialist public cloud solution integration[ clarification needed ] company, with a strong focus on compliance, security and cloud automation. [12] [13] [14]

Data Centre locations

Pulsant owns several data centres across multiple locations throughout the UK. These include three sites in Scotland, Edinburgh, South Gyle, Bankhead Medway and Newbridge, as well as nine in England; Sheffield, Manchester, Newcastle x 2, Maidenhead, South London, Milton Keynes and Reading x 2. The company occupies space in facilities in New York, Dallas, Boston, Amsterdam, Hong Kong and Frankfurt. [16]

Pulsant's South Gyle facility in Edinburgh hosts IXScotland, Scotland's first dedicated internet exchange. [17]

Royal Warrant

Pulsant were Royal Warrant holders to the British Royal Household as a provider of hosted IT and datacentre services [18] from 2013 - 2022.

Accreditations

Pulsant is certified to ISO/IEC 27001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 across 10 data centres. Recently acquired Reading South and Manchester [19] [20] will be accredited to the same level in Q1 2023. Pulsant also holds a level 1 PCI-DSS validation for physical security at three of its sites.

In 2013 Pulsant was awarded CSA Star certification for cloud security by the British Standards Institution (BSI Group). [21] [22]

Network-i Ltd was a datacentre company headquartered in Slough, Berkshire, England. The company provided hosting, colocation, network and cloud based services from its datacentres located in the United Kingdom.

Datapipe was a provider of managed hosting services and data centers for information technology services and cloud computing with data centers in Somerset, New Jersey, San Jose, California, the United Kingdom, and China. The company was founded in 1998 and is headquartered in Jersey City, New Jersey. Since 2011, more data centers have been added, including in Ashburn, Virginia, Moscow, and Singapore.

iland

iland Internet Solutions provides hosted cloud infrastructure as a service for production business applications, disaster recovery and business continuity, testing and development, and software as a service enablement for independent software vendors. iland also provides traditional colocation and hybrid cloud services. Founded in 1995, iland provides its services from high availability hubs specifically designed for cloud infrastructure in Boston, Washington D.C., Houston, Los Angeles, Dallas, Manchester, London, Amsterdam, Singapore, Melbourne, and Sydney. iland is a Premier-level partner in the VMware Service Provider Program (VSPP).

Interxion is a European provider of carrier and cloud-neutral colocation data centre services. Founded in 1998 in the Netherlands, the firm was publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange from 28 January 2011 until its acquisition by Digital Realty in March 2020. Interxion is headquartered in Schiphol-Rijk, the Netherlands, and delivers its services through 53 data centres in 11 European countries located in major metropolitan areas, including Dublin, London, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, and Madrid, the 6 main data centre markets in Europe, as well as Marseille, Interxion’s Internet Gateway.

Backbone Connect is a provider of cyber security, cloud, connectivity, communication and voice, wide area networks, internet access and colocation services to businesses in the UK, Europe and North America. It also provides resilient digital infrastructure for commercial property assets and long-term IT support for tenants.

Carrenza, was a cloud-computing company based in London, United Kingdom. The company was acquired by Six Degrees in 2016.

Green House Data, now known as Lunavi, was a data center and managed services provider headquartered in Cheyenne, Wyoming, United States that rebranded as Lunavi in 2020.

Alibaba Cloud, also known as Aliyun, is a cloud computing company, a subsidiary of Alibaba Group. Alibaba Cloud provides cloud computing services to online businesses and Alibaba's own e-commerce ecosystem. Its international operations are registered and headquartered in Singapore.

Teraco Data Environments is a carrier-, cloud- and vendor-neutral data centre provider founded by Tim Parsonson and Lex van Wyk in 2008. On August 1, 2022, Digital Realty announced that it had completed the purchase of a majority stake in Teraco, previously controlled by Berkshire Partners, Permira and a group of investors.
