Puntland State League (Somali : Horyaalka Kubadda Cagta Puntland) is the top flight football league in Puntland, Somalia. [2]

History

In 2014, Puntland attempted to join FIFA. [3] The Puntland State League was founded in 2017 with nine clubs. [4] Bari FC won the inaugural season. [5] A second-tier league with promotion was planned to be established by 2018. [6] During the 2022 season, the first and second-placed clubs received money as rewards. [7] The 2023/2024 Puntland State League Serie A concluded with Homboboro FC defeating Comsed FC in the men's final via a penalty shoot-out. [8] [9] [10]

Ahmed Abdi Mohamud Sugulle "Habsade" is a Puntland and Somaliland politician. He was a decorated Colonel in the Somali Armed Forces and the second in command of the Somali Custodial Corps equivalent to that of the Italian Arma dei Carabinieri but the Custodial Corps fall under the Ministry of the Interior and are part of the Police Force. A politician and respected elder later in life (he was instrumental in the founding of Somaliland and became the Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives. In 1998, he was appointed Minister of the Interior of Puntland but was dismissed in 2007 after a conflict with Mohamud Muse Hersi, who became President of Puntland in 2006. In 2007, he brought Somaliland troops into Las Anod, leading to Somaliland's effective control of the Sool region. He served as various Somaliland Ministers of state from 2008. In 2014, Abdiweli Gaas became President of Puntland and he come back to Puntland.

Hassan Dahir Afqurac is a Somali politician who was the Vice President of Puntland from January 2005 to January 2009. In 2013, he died of liver disease in Nairobi.


Guumays (Guumeys) is a village in the Sool region currently under the control of Khatumo State forces.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Guled Salah Barre</span> Somali politicians

Gulleid Salah Barre is a Somali politician who served as the Chairman of the Transitional Puntland Electoral Committee from 2019 to 2022 and as the Puntland Minister of Environment and Climate Change from 2014 to 2016. He is the founder and first director of the research institute SIDRA and has worked with the UNDP and UNFPA. He also became a professor and vice president at the University of East Africa in Garowe.
