Puntland TV and Radio (PLTV Somali : Raadiyaha iyo Telefishinka Dawladda Puntland) is the public broadcasting network owned by autonomous state of Puntland and managed by Ministry of Information (Puntland). Its headquarters are at the administrative capital Garowe. The service also maintains an office in London. Founded in April 2013, Puntland TV and Radio broadcasts locally in Somali via terrestrial service. It also airs programs globally through satellite. Radio Puntland broadcasts internationally via shortwave, with its transmission reaching as far as Finland. Puntland TV and Radio is the public broadcasting network of the autonomous Puntland State of Somalia. It was established in April 2013, with its headquarters in the regional capital of Garowe. The service also maintains an office in London for international reach.

History and establishment

Puntland TV and Radio broadcasts locally in Somalia via terrestrial services and globally through satellite. Radio Puntland additionally uses shortwave for international broadcasting, reaching as far as Finland.

The network's programming includes general news with a focus on regional developments, sports and entertainment.

The Puntland TV and Radio established during Presidency Farole on April 2013, This media outlet plays a significant role in disseminating information within and about the region.

On August 3, 2014, the President of Puntland, Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas, released a statement followed by a presidential decree appointing Abdifatah Nur Ashkir as the new Director of the Puntland TV and Radio Agency. [4]

On August 12, 2014, the former state media director, Ahmed Mohamed Kismayo, administered the oath of office presented by senior government officials, politicians, traditional leaders, and journalists in the capital, Garowe. Following the inauguration, Ashkir officially took office. [5]

The 2005 Puntland presidential election was held on 8 January 2005 in Garowe, the administrative capital of the autonomous Puntland state of Somalia. The first such vote to be held in the state since its establishment 1998, it followed the election of a new Parliament Speaker and Deputy Speakers on January 04, 2005 by the 66-seat unicameral legislature. Candidates included officials from the incumbent Puntland administration, former government ministers and prominent local entrepreneurs. The ballot saw the election of Military leader General Adde Muse as the third president of Puntland, narrowly defeating Mohamed Abdi Hashi. Parliament of Puntland concurrently elected Hassan Dahir Afqurac as Puntland's new vice president in place of Mohamed Ali Yusuf.

Indirect presidential elections were held in Jubaland, Somalia on 25 November. The incumbent president Ahmed Mohamed Islam was re-elected by members of the House of Representatives as the President of Jubaland for a third term. It was the third election since the state's formation in 2012. Prior to the elections, the Parliament Speaker and other Deputy Speakers were elected on 21 November, by the House of Representatives of Jubaland.

The Jubaland crisis is an ongoing armed conflict in the autonomous Jubaland state of southern Somalia. It resulted from a constitutional dispute between Somali Federal Government led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre versus Jubaland, following the re-election of Ahmed Madobe as the state's president for a third term.

He is currently serving as the Director general of the Puntland Intelligence Agency.
