Pup Creek

Pup Creek is a stream in Daviess County, Kentucky, in the United States. [1] It is a tributary of the Ohio River.

Pup Creek was so named from an incident when pioneers drowned puppies in this stream. [2]

Ben Hawes Golf Course and Park is a park located just outside Owensboro, Kentucky, in Daviess County. The park encompasses 297 acres (1.20 km2), and was named after the former Mayor of Owensboro, Benjamin W. Hawes. It was acquired by the City of Owensboro in 1962. The Park opened Memorial Day in 1964. The City of Owensboro operated the golf course and park until 1980 when the property was sold to the Commonwealth of Kentucky to be operated as a state park. In 2010, the City reacquired the property.

Daviess County High School is located in Owensboro, Kentucky, United States. It is one of the largest schools in the area, with roughly 1750 students. It is part of the Daviess County Public Schools system. Its sister school is Apollo High School. Daviess County Middle School and College View Middle School feed into Daviess County High School.

Apollo High School is a high school that is part of the Daviess County Public Schools district, located in Owensboro, Kentucky, United States. It was named after the Apollo Space Program, and opened in 1969 as a junior high school. It then converted into a high school in 1972 and held its first graduation in 1974. The school paper is named The Challenger, after the Space Shuttle Challenger. This school also has a marching band program called the Apollo Marching Eagles.

Yelvington Baptist Church organized on June 30, 1813, about two miles west of its present location in Yelvington, Kentucky, is the oldest Southern Baptist congregation in Daviess County, Kentucky. When organized the church adopted its original name as "Panther Creek Church of Ohio County, near Yellowbanks." This name was adopted because of what is now known as Yelvington was in Ohio County at that time. In 1817 the name was changed to "Rock Spring", and in 1854 the name was changed to "Yelvington Baptist Church" and as remained so ever since. It is the oldest Baptist church in Daviess County.
