R. Sivaraman

R. Sivaraman (died 2007) was an Indian politician and a Member of the Legislative Assembly. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate from Tiruppattur (194) constituency in the 1996 election. [1]

Sivaraman contested the Tiruppattur constituency again in 2001, when he was runner-up to K. K. Umadhevan of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. [2]

In May 2003, Sivaraman, who was a close friend of M. K. Azhagiri, the son of DMK party leader Karunanidhi, came under suspicion when Azhagiri was charged with conspiracy in the murder of Tha. Kiruttinan, a former minister and senior figure in the party. He was taken into protective custody for a while because police were concerned about possible violence following their arrest of Azhagiri. Subsequently, he was conditionally bailed. [3]

Supporters of Sivaraman were initially unhappy when the DMK decided not to let him run for the Tiruppattur seat in 2006. They were placated when he was given the opportunity to stand instead for the Sivaganga constituency. [4]

More violent incidents with which Sivaraman, who owned a stone quarry, became associated occurred in 2007. In February, he was arrested on an allegation of hiring a group of henchmen to damage the offices of a business rival and attack staff there. [5] Then, in June, an explosion that resulted in many injuries and two deaths, including that of P. Murugan, was considered by police to involve a dispute between a faction within the DMK led by Sivaraman and another led by K. R. Periyakaruppan. Murugan was of Sivaraman's group. [6]

Sivaraman died in hospital, aged 46, on 8 July 2007. He was survived by his wife and two children. [7]

The thirteenth legislative assembly election, of Tamil Nadu was held on 8 May 2006. It was held for all 234 constituencies to elect the government in the state for the following five years. The votes were counted three days later on 11 May 2006 and all the results were out by the end of the day. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led (DMK) front won the elections, with the DMK emerging as the single-largest party with 96 seats, and its leader, M Karunanidhi was sworn in as Chief Minister for a fifth and final term. This election marked the first time the state saw a hung assembly with no party gaining a majority of its own. He is a former Minister for Transport in the Government of Tamil Nadu. He has been elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on four occasions as a candidate of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party. He presently elevated as Principal Secretary of DMK.

Radhakrishnan is an Indian Tamil politician, Minister of Tamilnadu and Member of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elected from Tiruchendur constituency as AIADMK candidate in 2001,2006 and as DMK candidate in 2009(Bye-election),2011,2016 and 2021.He was also former Minister for Animal Husbandry and Minister for Housing & Urban Development in the 2001 AIADMK government.

By-elections to nine state assembly constituencies were held in Tamil Nadu, in four separate phases. Also, election took place for Vandavasi and Tiruchendur constituency on 19 December 2009 and finally for Pennagaram constituency on 27 March 2010. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) defeated All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in Thirumangalam in the first phase and kept the winning momentum in the following general election.

Muthuvelayudha Perumal Appavu is an Indian Tamil politician and Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Tamil Nadu. He is the current Speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. He has contested in the Radhapuram state assembly constituency and won four times. He is currently the Speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
