In 2009, Dr Rabinder Buttar was named the Institute of Directors, 'Director of the Year' for Glasgow & West of Scotland, [4] and in 2010, she received the Ernst & Young Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year award [5]
Dr Rabinder Buttar FRSE is the founder, CEO & Chair Person of a clinical research organisation.
Dr Buttar was born in India and holds a BSc in biochemistry from the University of Glasgow and a PhD in Immunology from the University of Strathclyde. [1] [2] as well as a certificate in Management from Reading, and received an honorary doctorate from the University of the West of Scotland. She served for four years on the board of the Institute of Clinical Research UK (ICR), is an Honorary Fellow of ICR, [2] a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and, in 2014, she became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Thomas Graham was a Scottish chemist known for his pioneering work in dialysis and the diffusion of gases. He is regarded as one of the founders of colloid chemistry.
Robert Haldane Smith, Baron Smith of Kelvin, is a British businessman and former Governor of the British Broadcasting Corporation. Smith was knighted in 1999, appointed to the House of Lords as an independent crossbench peer in 2008, and appointed Knight of the Thistle in the 2014 New Year Honours. He was also appointed to the Order of the Companions of Honour in 2016.
Sir Kenneth Charles Calman, HonFAcadMEd is a doctor and academic who formerly worked as a surgeon, oncologist and cancer researcher and held the position of Chief Medical Officer of Scotland, and then England. He was Warden and Vice-Chancellor of Durham University from 1998 to 2006 before becoming Chancellor of the University of Glasgow. He held the position of Chair of the National Cancer Research Institute from 2008 until 2011. From 2008 to 2009, he was convener of the Calman Commission on Scottish devolution.
Eve Cordelia Johnstone CBE FRCP FRCPE FRCPGla FRCPsych FMedSci FRSE is a Scottish physician, clinical researcher, psychiatrist and academic. Her main research area is in the field of schizophrenia and psychotic illness. She is Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry and Honorary Assistant Principal for Mental Health Research Development and Public Understanding of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. She is best known for her 1976 groundbreaking study that showed brain abnormalities in schizophrenic patients compared to a control group.
Sir John Peebles Arbuthnott, PPRSE, FRCPSG, FMedSci, FRCPath was a Scottish microbiologist, and was Principal of the University of Strathclyde. He succeeded Lord Wilson of Tillyorn as President of The Royal Society of Edinburgh in October 2011 and was succeeded by Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell in October 2014.

Thomas Baer is the executive director of the Stanford Photonics Research Center, a consulting professor in the Applied Physics Department and an Associate Member of the Stem Cell Institute at Stanford University. His current scientific research is focused on developing imaging and biochemical analysis technology for exploring the molecular basis of human developmental biology and neuroscience. He received a B.A. in physics from Lawrence University in 1974, and a Ph.D. in atomic physics from the University of Chicago in 1979, where he studied with Professors Ugo Fano and Isaac Abella. After receiving his Ph.D. he worked with Nobel Laureate John L. Hall at JILA, University of Colorado, performing research on frequency stabilized lasers and ultra-high precision molecular spectroscopy.
Hamish Nisbet Munro FRSE (1915–1994) was a Scottish biochemist and expert in protein metabolism at Glasgow University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served as president of the American Institute of Nutrition in 1978, and was first director of the USDA Human Nutrition Research Centre on Ageing at Tufts University.
Joanna Marguerite Wardlaw is a Scottish physician, radiologist, and academic specialising in neuroradiology and pathophysiology. Wardlaw worked as a junior doctor before specialising as a radiologist. She continues to practice medicine as an Honorary Consultant Neuroradiologist with NHS Lothian. She has spent her entire academic career at the University of Edinburgh.

Aileen Margaret KeelCBE FRCPath FRCPG FRCPE FRCSE FRCGP is a Scottish medical doctor and academic who is serving as the Director of the Innovative Healthcare Delivery Programme at the University of Edinburgh. She previously served as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Scotland from 1999 to 2014 and served as the Acting Chief Medical Officer, until 2015.

Malcolm Macdonald is a Scottish space technology engineer, academic, and director. He is a Professor and the Chair of Applied Space Technology at the University of Strathclyde, and a visiting professor at University College Dublin. He was Director of the Scottish Centre of Excellence in Satellite Applications, SoXSA, from 2014 - 2020, and a non-executive member of the UK Space Agency Steering Board from 2017 - 2020. He is an acknowledged expert in space research, and in 2021 was referred to in the media as "Scotland's leading space expert".

Patricia Connolly is a Scottish biomedical engineer whose expertise concerns the development of bioelectronic devices for medical diagnostics and monitoring. She is a professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Strathclyde, the director of the Strathclyde Institute of Medical Devices, deputy associate principal of the university, joint lead for the university's HealthTech Cluster, founding CEO of Strathclyde spinout corporation Ohmedics Ltd, and a member of the board of directors of the Association of British HealthTech Industries.
