Rachelle Vinberg (born August 27, 1998) is an American skateboarder and actress. She is best known for starring as Camille, a fictionalized version of herself, in the film Skate Kitchen and the TV series Betty inspired by the real group of female skaters she is a part of.

Early life and education

Vinberg was born in Long Island, New York, to divorced parents, a Colombian mother and an American father. She has an older brother and a younger brother. As of 2018, Vinberg was a sophomore at Brooklyn College, where she was majoring in film. [1] [2]

Career

Skateboarding

Vinberg learned to ollie the summer before she turned 12, taught by an older cousin. [1] Vinberg continued learning tricks by watching YouTube and started skating with the boys in her neighborhood. [1] Vinberg befriended Nina Moran over YouTube and the two started skating together in NYC. [1] While in NYC, Vinberg and Moran met Crystal Moselle. [1] [3] Moselle shot a 13-minute film with Vinberg, Moran and several of their friends titled That One Day, which was then reworked and expanded into the feature film, Skate Kitchen . [4] [5]

Acting

Vinberg was skating at LES Skatepark when a casting director approached her to appear in "A Perfect Day", a Samsung commercial directed by Cary Fukunaga. [6] In 2018, Vinberg played Camille in Crystal Moselle's film Skate Kitchen . [1] Vinberg stars in the HBO produced series Betty , based on Skate Kitchen. [7]

Skate Kitchen is a 2018 American teen drama film written and directed by Crystal Moselle based on her short film That One Day. Rachelle Vinberg stars as Camille, a teenage girl who befriends a group of female skateboarders in New York City. It is inspired by the real group of female skaters based in New York who call themselves "Skate Kitchen" and features the group's members playing fictionalized versions of themselves.

Betty is an American teen comedy television series created by Crystal Moselle. The series is based on Moselle's 2018 feature film Skate Kitchen, which was in turn based on her 2016 short film That One Day. It includes most of the cast of the original feature film, and focuses on the Gen Z all-girl group's efforts to stand out in New York's predominantly male world of skateboarding. The series premiered on HBO on May 1, 2020. In June 2020, the series was renewed for a second season which premiered on June 11, 2021. In August 2021, the series was canceled after two seasons.

Dede Lovelace is an American actress, skateboarder, visual artist, and DJ. Lovelace made her acting debut in That One Day (2016). Lovelace played Janay in the 2018 film Skate Kitchen, and currently plays Janay in the 2020 HBO television series adaptation Betty.

Ajani Russell is an American skateboarder, actress, and model. Russell is best known for playing Indigo in the 2018 film Skate Kitchen, and currently plays Indigo in the 2020 HBO television series adaptation Betty.
