Radar Music Videos is a music video commissioning company based at RAK Studios in London. The service allows labels, artists, and managers to commission music videos from new directors.

Contents

Radar was founded by Caroline Bottomley in 2007 as The Radar Festival, a music video festival held at London’s Apple store. [2] In 2008, the festival played at seven Apple stores worldwide, as well as London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts. It subsequently moved online to become a music video commissioning service.

Artists that have had music videos made through the service include Alt-J [3] and Jessie J. [4]

Radar has also been used by dance music producers and labels, including Tiesto, Spinnin' Records [5] and Ultramusic, alongside major labels such as Island Records [6] and Universal Records.

Directors such as Emile Rafael, [7] Ellis Bahl [8] and Tom Stoddart have used the service in their music careers. [9]

On October 27, 2015, Radar Music Video announced a partnership with boutique digital marketing and creative services company, Sneak Attack Media. [10]

Awards

Radar won the Music 4.5 2011 tech startup competition, [11] and was awarded for Excellence in Music Technology at the 2012 Lovie Awards. [12]

Videos commissioned through Radar have been nominated for UK Music Video Awards, including videos by The Candle Thieves [13] and ArtOfficial. [14] Alt-J won 2012 'Best Alternative Video' for 'Breezeblocks'. [15]

The UK Music Video Awards is an annual celebration of creativity, technical excellence and innovation in music video and moving image for music. The awards began in 2008. There is a wide range of opportunities for UK individuals and companies to enter their work: from genre-led video categories, to prizes for individuals in the technical and craft areas of the business, to recognition for innovative approaches to music videos, ads and other visuals. There are also awards for international videos and outstanding individuals, voted for by the MVA jury members. The Awards take place in the autumn, with the entry process opening in early August. The UK MVA’s are originally the key members of the team behind BUG, the BFI Southbank’s music video strand, and have 20 years’ experience running events in the UK music video business.

Disclosure are an English electronic music duo consisting of brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence. They grew up in Reigate, Surrey. Alive is the second studio album by English singer-songwriter Jessie J. It was released on 23 September 2013 through Lava Music and Universal Republic. American rap artist Becky G, singer Brandy Norwood, American hip-hop artist Big Sean and British grime artist Dizzee Rascal all make guest appearances on the album. Jessie co-wrote the album with Claude Kelly, amongst a host of collaborators from both new and old.

British indie rock band called alt-J have released four studio albums, one live album, three extended plays, fourteen singles, and thirteen music videos.

Black Butter Records is a British record label based in London, England. It was founded in 2010 by Olly Wood, Henry Village and Joe Gossa, with an investment of £5,000, and was named after a brand of condiments that had the same name. It was intended initially as an outlet for musicians who were signed to their artist management company, Stackhouse Management, and as a reaction against other labels that were "genre specific".

Ryan Heffington is an American dancer and choreographer based in Los Angeles. He was nominated for two Grammy Awards for choreographing the music videos for Arcade Fire's "We Exist" (2013) and Sia's "Chandelier" (2014), winning a VMA Award for the latter.

Moses Sumney is a Ghanaian-American singer-songwriter. His self-recorded EP, Mid-City Island, was released in 2014. He released another five-song EP in 2016, titled Lamentations. His first full-length album, Aromanticism, was released in September 2017. His second studio album, Græ, was released in 2020. Sumney has performed as an opening act for James Blake, Solange Knowles, and Sufjan Stevens.

Tinlicker is a Dutch electronic music group from Utrecht comprising Micha Heyboer and Jordi van Achthoven. Formed in 2012, they have released music on labels such as Anjunadeep, mau5trap, Astralwerks, and Armada. They have played festivals including Mysteryland, Creamfields, Tomorrowland, and Ultra.
