Raghunath Patnaik was an Indian politician and a veteran leader of the Indian National Congress.
Patnaik was born in a village near Jeypore in the district of Koraput in Odisha. Known as a 'Gentleman Politician' in Odisha, he has been associated in active politics since a very early age and has been working as an active worker of the congress party since then.
In his political career that spanned across nearly six decades, he has won several elections and has been elected as a member of the municipality, [1] chairman of the Jeypore municipality and MLA from Jeypore. He has represented the Jeypore constituency six times [2] in the Odisha legislative assembly and besides being the Leader of Opposition in the assembly has worked as a Cabinet Minister for Finance, Law, Panchaytiraj departments of Government of Odisha several times. He was also Chairman, Law Revision Committee. [3]
He was elected as the member of urban local body of Jeypore for the first time at the age of 21 [4] and was elected as the chairman of Jeypore municipality at the age of 25. During his chairmanship in municipality the electric street lights were introduced in Jeypore replacing the manual oil lamp posts. Establishment of Govt. Women's College and construction of Upper Kolab dam are few among his contributions in the development of the region.
Patnaik died on 12 May 2016, following a brief illness. He was 89.

He is the father of Naveen Patnaik, who was the CM of Odisha.

Laichan Nayak was an Indian politician from Koraput District, Odisha. he has won twice as a MLA of Jeypore in the elections of 1952 and 1957. In fact he was the first MLA from Jeypore after independence of India.
Bijoy Mohapatra is a politician from Odisha. A leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, he was Irrigation Minister of Odisha from 1990 to 1995 in the Biju Patnaik cabinet. Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka is an Indian politician hailing from Rayagada, Koraput. He was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha, lower house of the Parliament of India from Koraput, Odisha in the 2019 Indian general election as a member of the Indian National Congress. He retained his seat again by winning with a margin of 1,47,744 votes in the 2024 Indian general election. He is currently the only member from Odisha Congress in the Lok Sabha
Mohammed Afzal-ul Amin, popularly known as M.A. Amin, was an Indian statesman, politician and social worker from Cuttack, Odisha. He served as the general secretary of Utkal Pradesh Congress Committee during Biren Mitra's chief ministership. Afzal-ul was the Vice Chairman and later the Chairman of Cuttack Municipality and also the President of Odisha Mohammadan Association. He played a major role in preserving Urdu language in Cuttack by establishing several lower primary and upper primary Urdu schools in the city. He is also credited for organising various nationalist meetings and for mobilizing the common masses in Cuttack during the Quit India movement of 1942.
Legislative Assembly elections were held in the eastern coastal state of Odisha from 13 May to 1 June 2024 to elect the 147 members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. The votes were counted and results were declared on 4 June 2024 forming the 17th Assembly.

Surendra Nath Naik was an Indian politician, a senior leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), and a former minister in Odisha. He served seven terms as a Member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. Naik was a cabinet minister in the BJD-BJP coalition government led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik from 2000 to 2009, overseeing various portfolios including excise, revenue, school and mass education, and Panchayati Raj. Naik also served as the deputy chairman of the Odisha Planning Board from 2012 to 2014.
