Kwara State, is a state in Western Nigeria, bordered to the east by Kogi State, to the north by Niger state, and to the south by Ekiti, Osun, and Oyo states, while its western border makes up part of the international border with Benin Republic. Its capital is the city of Ilorin and the state has 16 local government areas.
The Ìgbómìnà are a subgroup of the Yoruba ethnic group, which originates from the north central and southwest Nigeria. They speak a dialect also called Ìgbómìnà or Igbonna, classified among the Central Yoruba of the three major Yoruba dialectical areas. The Ìgbómìnà spread across what is now southern Kwara State and northern Osun State. Peripheral areas of the dialectical region have some similarities to the adjoining Ekiti, Ijesha and Oyo dialects.

Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim PhD, FCIB was a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from Kwara State. He represented Kwara South Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly. Senator Ibrahim was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, and also a member of Senate Committees on Appropriation, Federal Character and Inter Government Affairs, and Media and Public Affairs.

Olufunke AdedoyinListen was a Nigerian politician and lawmaker representing Irepodun/Oke-Ero/Isin/Ekiti Federal Constituency of Kwara State at the Federal House of Representative, Abuja. She joined the National Assembly under the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC). She was however among some APC lawmakers who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party in 2018. Olufunke died in September 2018 after battling with cancer for two years. Prior to being a legislator at the National Assembly, she had served as a Minister of Youth Development and Minister of State for Health during the former President Olusegun Obasanjo administration.
The 2019 Kwara State gubernatorial election occurred on March 9, 2019. APC's AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq polled 73.12% of the total votes, ahead of PDP's Razak Atunwa who got 25.31% of votes trailing behind by a margin of 216,792 votes, and several minor party candidates. APC won in all 16 LGAs of the state.
The 2022 Nigerian gubernatorial elections were held on 18 June 2022, in Ekiti State, and on 16 July 2022, in Osun State. The last regular gubernatorial elections for both states were in 2018. Before the elections, the All Progressives Congress held both offices with Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi being term-limited after serving his second nonconsecutive term and Osun Governor Gboyega Oyetola running for a second term with his party's nomination. In the post-elections situation, the APC held Ekiti with a victory for former Secretary to the State Government Abiodun Oyebanji but lost Osun as Oyetola was defeated by former Senator Ademola Adeleke—the nominee of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The 2023 Kwara State gubernatorial election will take place on 11 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Kwara State, concurrent with elections to the Kwara State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election will be held two weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been renominated by his party.
The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Kwara State held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Kwara State. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe representing Kwara Central, Suleiman Sadiq Umar representing Kwara North and Yisa Oyelola Ashiru representing Kwara South all won on the platform of All Progressives Congress.
The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Ekiti State held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Ekiti State. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele representing Ekiti Central, Adetumbi Olubunmi representing Ekiti North and Adebayo Clement Adeyeye representing Ekiti South all won on the platform of All Progressives Congress; however, Adeyeye's win was later overturned and the seat awarded to PDP incumbent Abiodun Olujimi.
