Railroad Square Art District is an arts, culture and entertainment district of Tallahassee, Florida, located off Railroad Avenue (south of the Amtrak station and FAMU), filled with a variety of metal art sculptures and murals, and stores selling artwork and collectibles.
In 2021, a skateable art park was added in partnership with Team Pain. [1] The skatepark features Florida's longest snake-run. [2]
Railroad Square Art District is the site of the former McDonnell Lumber Company, and most of the warehouses there were originally constructed in the 1940s. The property later became the Downtown Industrial Park. [3] Railroad Square claims to have originated as a World War II-era rail yard. [4] [ better source needed ]
In the 1950s it was acquired by The Boynton Family, who renamed the site to Railroad Square in the 1980s. The park is now owned by Lily and Adam Boynton Kaye. [5] The site has hosted a microbrewery, rock climbing gym, art galleries, art studios, and vintage shops, with over 70 tenants. Most tenants are located within railroad warehouses.[ citation needed ]
In January 2019, discussion began on the construction of a Hyatt hotel at the entrance of the park. The decision was met with a mixed reaction from the park’s pre-existing tenants. [6] The hotel opened in February of 2021, [7] and in December of 2021, it was sold to the minority-owned hoteliers Noble Investment Group. [8]
On May 10, 2024, the Railroad Square Art District was struck by an EF2 tornado, one of two in Tallahassee that day. [9] [10]
A large portion of the spaces at Railroad Square are occupied by art studios. There are also a couple of galleries which host painting parties and arts and crafts events. [11]
The Mickee Faust Club is a prominent local community theater organization that has been operating in Tallahassee since 1987 [12] that operates an LGBTQ+ and disabled-inclusive venue on the south side of Railroad Square. [13]
On the first Friday of every month for the past twenty years, the district hosts the ‘First Friday Gallery Hop’ (known locally as ‘First Fridays’), an event in the evening featuring live music, open galleries, and food trucks. [14] Business owners at Railroad Square report that these events are a crucial source of income. [15]

Boynton Beach is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. It is situated about 57 miles (92 km) north of Miami. The 2020 census recorded a population of 80,380. Boynton Beach is located in the Miami metropolitan area, which was home to 6,138,333 people at the 2020 census. The city is named after Nathan Boynton, a Civil War major and Michigan politician who became one of the first settlers in the area in 1895. Boynton Beach is located north of Delray Beach, south of Hypoluxo and Lantana, and east of Golf, while the municipalities of Briny Breezes, Gulf Stream, Manalapan, and Ocean Ridge are situated to the east across the Intracoastal Waterway.

Governor's Square is a super-regional shopping mall located on Apalachee Parkway in Tallahassee, Florida. The anchor stores are currently JCPenney and Dillard's along with two vacant spaces last occupied by Macy’s and Sears.

Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Company was a lumber products company with large sawmills and significant land holdings in Minnesota, Florida, British Columbia, and Central Oregon. The company was formed in 1901 with its headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Beginning in 1915, its main lumber production facility was in Bend, Oregon. For many years, its Bend sawmill was one of the largest lumber producers in the world. In 1969, the company created Brooks Resources to broaden its business base beyond timber production. Brooks-Scanlon's Bend sawmill was closed in 1994. Today, Brooks Resources is the only vestige of the company that is still in business.
