Rainer Schmidt (born 1964) is a German classical violinist.
Rainer Schmidt studied at the University of Music, Theatre and Media Hanover, where he graduated with a soloist diploma. He also studied at the College Conservatory of the University of Cincinnati with Walter Levin from the LaSalle Quartet. [1] Since 1987, he has been a member of the Hagen Quartet, where he plays the second violin. [1] In 1989, he founded the Ravinia Trio. [2] [3]
Since 1988, Schmidt has been teaching at the Mozarteum Salzburg and between 2002 and 2007 at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid. Since October 2007, he has held the professorship for violin and chamber music at the Musik-Akademie der Stadt Basel. [4]
Peter Ruzicka is a German composer and conductor of classical music. He was director of the Hamburg State Opera, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Hamburg and the Salzburg Festival. Ruzicka was managing director and Intendant of the Salzburg Easter Festival and is professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. The list of his compositions includes numerous orchestral and chamber music works as well as the opera "Celan", about the poet Paul Celan, which was premiered in Dresden in 2001. His opera "Hölderlin" had its premiere at the Berlin State Opera in 2008. Ruzicka's third opera "Benjamin", about the philosopher Walter Benjamin, was written in 2015/16 for the Hamburg State Opera and premiered in 2018.
The Hagen Quartet is an Austrian string quartet founded in 1981 by four siblings, Lukas, Angelika, Veronika and Clemens, in Salzburg. The quartet members are teachers and mentors at the Salzburg Mozarteum and the Hochschule für Musik Basel. The ensemble made its Salzburg Festival debut in 1984. The complete recordings of the Mozart string quartets were released in 2006. In the 2012–2013 season, the Hagen Quartet performed the complete Beethoven cycle in New York, Tokyo, Paris, London, Salzburg and Vienna. They performed, between December 2013 and August 2017, on the four famous Stradivarius instruments played previously by the Paganini Quartet, the Cleveland String Quartet, and the Tokyo String Quartet, respectively. Those instruments are now being played by the Quartetto di Cremona.
Reinhard Goebel is a German conductor and violinist specialising in early music on authentic instruments and professor for historical performance at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Goebel received his first violin lessons at the age of twelve. He studied the violin with Franzjosef Maier, the leader of the Collegium Aureum, Saschko Gawriloff, an expert in difficult modern scores, and baroque violinists Marie Leonhardt in The Hague and Eduard Melkus in Vienna.
