Hari Narayen Ramkaran (born 11 August 1946),known as Ralph Ramkarran,is a Guyanese politician and lawyer. He served as Speaker of the National Assembly of Guyana from 2001 to 2011. [1]
He attended Bel Air Primary school,Central High School and Queen's College. After his high school education,he then went on to the UK to study law. Ramkarran qualified as a lawyer in 1972 in the United Kingdom as a member of Gray's Inn and returned to Guyana the following year when he entered into private practice. In 1977,he joined the law firm of Cameron &Shepherd,which is now Guyana's oldest and largest law firm. He is currently the firm's Senior Partner. He became a Senior Counsel of Guyana's judiciary in 1996.
Ramkarran has spoken and lectured widely on behalf of the People's Progressive Party (PPP) in Guyana and was the editor of its official journal,the Thunder,between 1992 and 2002. He was elected to the PPP's Central and Executive Committees in 1974 and 1975. He was elected to the Council of the Guyana Bar Association in 1979 and served for twelve years as Treasurer,Assistant Secretary and Secretary.
In 1994 he was elected as the Guyana Facilitator to the United Nations Good Officer Process under the Geneva Agreement relating to the Guyana-Venezuela Border controversy.
His father,Boysie Ramkarran,served as British Guiana's,Minister of Works and Communications in the 1957/61 PPP government and immediately after that Boysie Ramkarran served as Minister of Works and Hydraulics in the 1961/1964 PPP government and he was also the General Secretary of GAWU between 1975 and 1985.
On 29 June 2012,at an executive party meeting Ramkarran proclaimed he received many hostilities as a result of an article he wrote about corruption. After being,in his own words "gratuitously and irrelevantly accused of being untrustworthy",he declared that "after forty years in the leadership of the PPP,such an accusation was about as much as I could bear." The following day,he resigned from the PPP. [2]
The politics of Guyana takes place in a framework of a Parliamentary representative democratic republic,whereby the President of Guyana is the head of government and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the President,advised by a cabinet. Legislative power is vested in both the President and the National Assembly of Guyana. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.

Bharrat Jagdeo is a Guyanese politician who has been serving as Vice President of Guyana since 2020,in the administration of President Irfaan Ali. He had previously also held the office from 1997 until 1999,during the presidency of Janet Jagan. Jagdeo subsequently served as the President of Guyana from 11 August 1999 to 3 December 2011. He also holds a number of global leadership positions in the areas of sustainable development,green growth and climate change.
Brindley Horatio Benn,CCH was a teacher,choirmaster,politician,and one of the key leaders of the Guyanese independence movement. He was put under restriction when the constitution was suspended in 1953. In 1957,Benn served as Minister of Community Development and Education in the first elected government of Guyana,and between 1961 and 1964 as Minister of Natural Resources. From 1993 to 1998,he served as High Commissioner of Guyana to Canada.

She previously served as the first female Prime Minister of Guyana from March 17,1997,to December 19,1997. The wife of Cheddi Jagan,whom she succeeded as president,she was awarded Guyana's highest national award,the Order of Excellence,in 1993,and the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Gold Medal for Women's Rights in 1998.

Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham was a Guyanese politician and the leader of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana from 1964 until his death in 1985. Donald Rabindranauth Ramotar is a Guyanese politician who was President of Guyana from 2011 to 2015. He was also the General Secretary of the People's Progressive Party (PPP) from 1997 to 2013.

He had the longest tenure in the Senate of the Philippines,having served four non-consecutive terms overall:from 1995 to 2007 and 2010 to 2022. Muhammad Latif Khosa is a politician representing Pakistan People's Party who has been the Governor of Punjab from 2011 until 2013. He is a lawyer by profession,having been a senior advocate in the Supreme Court of Pakistan and is considered an authoritative legal and constitutional expert of the country. A former senator and a former Attorney General of Pakistan,Latif Khosa was appointed as the Governor of Punjab by the President of Pakistan after the murder of late-Governor Salman Taseer on 11 January 2011. He was appointed the attorney general on 19 August 2008. Khosa also remained Member Pakistan Bar Council for three terms 1990-2005 and served as Chairman of the Executive Committee (CEC) of Pakistan Bar Council. He co-authored an electoral fraud report with former prime minister Benazir Bhutto shortly before her assassination in December 2007. Khosa has been one of Late Banazir Bhutto's top aides.

It came into effect on October 6,1980,replacing the constitution enacted in 1966 upon its independence from the United Kingdom. The current Constitution of Guyana contains 12 chapters that are further divided into 232 articles. It also contains a preamble and an oath. Since its 1980 enactment,it has gone through multiple amendments.
