The President's Rana Parashuwa and the Regimental Rana Parashuwa are ceremonial hatchets carried by the Special Forces Regiment that serves as the equivalent of and is carried as the colours. [1]

The Special Forces Regiment (SF) is a special forces unit of the Sri Lanka Army. Founded in 1986 as a combat tracker team, it was established as a regiment in 1988, and later expanded into a brigade. The unit specialises in a number of roles including counter-terrorism, direct action and covert reconnaissance. Much like the British Army Special Air Service, much of the information about the SF is highly classified due to the secrecy and sensitivity of its operations.

He was killed in November 2008, while leading an eight-man Special Forces team on a covert operation 30 km behind enemy lines into territory held by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Major General Percy Fernando, RWP, RSP, psc, CR was a Sri Lankan Army officer, who was the Deputy GOC, 54 Division based at Elephant Pass and prior to which he was the brigade commander of the independent Special Forces Brigade.

General Shantha H.S. Kottegoda, WWV, RWP, RSP, VSV, USP is a retired senior Sri Lanka Army officer. He was the seventeenth Commander of the Sri Lankan Army from 1 July 2004 – 5 December 2005. He had served as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Brazil and Thailand. In April 2019, following the Easter Sunday bombings he was appointed as the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Defence.

The Glorious Resolve: Death Before Disgrace is a 2011 Pakistani documentary film made by the Inter-Services Public Relations department of the Pakistan Armed Forces. The film stars Hamza Ali Abbasi, Hassan Waqas Rana and Bilal Lashari in leading roles. The executive director was Brig Syed Mujtaba Tirmizi, whereas it was written by Irfan Aziz. It was created specifically to counter Taliban and al-Qaeda propaganda videos by depicting the army and the fight against terror in a positive light.

Major General Deshamanya Asoka Kanthilal Jayawardena, RWP, RSP, VSV, USP, was Sri Lankan senior army officer and politician. He was the former Provincial Governor of the Governor of North Eastern Province and Secretary to the Minister of Defence.

General N.U.M. Mahesh W. Senanayke, RWP, RSP, VSV, USP is a retired Sri Lankan Army officer who served as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army from 2017 to 2019. Senanayake had previously been the Commander, Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division and Brigade Commander, Special Forces Brigade. Having started his military career as a military engineer, Senanayake became a special forces officer and is a veteran of all four phases of the Sri Lankan Civil War, he has served in both its Northern and Eastern theaters. Following his retirement, he contested the 2019 Sri Lankan presidential election and came fourth after the three candidates of the three major political parties in the island.

The President's Truncheon is a ceremonial staff carried by the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment that serves as the equivalent of and is carried as the Presidential colours having been modeled after the Queen's Truncheon. The President's Truncheon is carried along with the Regimental Truncheon which is the equivalent of Regimental colours.

Major General Gamini Hettiarachchi, WWV, RWP, RSP, VSV, USP is a retired Sri Lankan Army officer who served as the Commander, Security Forces Headquarters – East, General Officer Commanding, 21 Division and Brigade Commander, Special Forces Brigade. Having founded the Special Forces Regiment of the Sri Lankan Army, he is known as the "Father of the Special Forces Regiment".
