The Ramon Magsaysay Award is an annual award established to perpetuate former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay's example of integrity in governance, courageous service to the people, and pragmatic idealism within a democratic society. The prize was established in April 1957 by the trustees of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund based in New York City with the concurrence of the Philippine government. It is often called the "Nobel Prize of Asia".
Ela Ramesh Bhatt was an Indian cooperative organiser, activist and Gandhian, who founded the Self-Employed Women's Association of India (SEWA) in 1972, and served as its general secretary from 1972 to 1996. She was the chancellor of the Gujarat Vidyapith from 7 March 2015 to 19 October 2022. A lawyer by training, Bhatt was a part of the international labour, cooperative, women, and micro-finance movements and won several national and international awards, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award (1977), Right Livelihood Award (1984) for "helping home-based producers to organise for their welfare and self-respect" and the Padma Bhushan (1986).
Prateep Ungsongtham Hata is a Thai activist noted for her work with slum dwellers in the Khlong Toei District of Bangkok, Thailand. Among her supporters, she is known as Khru Prateep, the "Angel of Khlong Toei" or "Slum Angel". She was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service in 1978, founded and became the Secretary General of the Duang Prateep Foundation. She was one of the leaders of the 1992 oppositional movement. In 2000, she was elected to the Senate, representing Bangkok.

Chung To (杜聰) is a Chinese AIDS activist, co-founder of the Chi HengFoundation (CHF). He was awarded the 2007 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership.
Prakash Baba Amte is a social worker from Maharashtra, India. Amte and his wife, Mandakini Amte, were awarded the Magsaysay Award for 'Community Leadership' in 2008 for their philanthropic work in the form of the Lok Biradari Prakalp amongst the Madia Gonds in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra and the neighbouring states of Telangana and Madhya Pradesh. In November 2019 he was awarded with ICMR Lifetime Achievement Award by Bill Gates.
Deep Joshi is an Indian social worker and NGO activist and a recipient of the Magsaysay award in 2009. He is recognised for his leadership in bringing professionalism to the NGO movement in India. He co-founded a non-profit organisation, Professional Assistance for Development Action (PRADAN), of which he was the Executive Director till 2007. He was awarded the 2009 Magsaysay award for Community Leadership for his work for "development of rural communities". He is also a recipient of the civilian honour of Padma Shri.
Ernesto O. Domingo is a National Scientist of the Philippines and professor emeritus at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine at UP Manila. Dr. Domingo is a specialist in hepatology and gastroenterology. He organized the UPM Liver Study Group and undertook important investigations of viral hepatitis and liver disease, establishing a causal link between chronic hepatitis-B and liver cancer. His study has saved millions of individuals from life-threatening illness and decreased health care expenditures by identifying the preventive approach to liver cancer.
Teten Masduki is an Indonesian social activist involved in public clearinghouse for information about corruption, collusion, and nepotism of Indonesia. He was awarded Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2005. He was appointed as the Minister for Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises in the Onward Indonesia Cabinet in October 2019.
A.H.M. Noman Khan is a pioneer in mainstreaming persons with disabilities in the development process of Bangladesh. He was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2010. He is the executive director of Centre for Disability in Development (CDD).

He is world recognized for developing a method of cultivating denuded mountain slopes, and for encouraging utilization of the method to help the poorest, small scale, tropical farmers, specifically in the Philippines. Anshu Gupta is an Indian entrepreneur. He founded the non-governmental organization Goonj. Goonj works on bridging urban and rural inequality. It does this by channelizing the urban surplus to initiate rural upliftment, disaster relief, and rehabilitation. Through Goonj, Anshu is building a parallel trash-based economy by creating barter between rural communities and urban surplus material. Anshu has been recognized by the Ramon Magsaysay foundation for his "creative vision in transforming the culture of giving in India".
Jose Vasquez Aguilar is the first Filipino recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award and also the first awardee of the said award for Government Service. He is also a recipient in the government service category of the said award which he shared with Chintaman Deshmukh in 1959. He is also recognized as the Father of the Community School Movement in the Philippines, pioneering reforms to ensure that community life is integrated in the education system. His community school model banks on the partnership between teachers, parents, and community with the goal of ensuring a practical education using the vernacular as a medium of instruction.
Pablo Torres Tapia was a Filipino banker and lawyer who received the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership in 1964. His contributions to the community involved establishing a rural bank aimed at providing loans for farmers, educating the farmers with the latest farming developments, and setting up the Tanauan Farmers Marketing Cooperative (FACOMA).
Khun Nilawan Pintong was a Thai feminist whose efforts toward the development of women's rights in Thailand earned her the title Steel Lotus Blossom. She is best known as the founder of the Ounakorn Center and Satree Sarn Magazine, Thailand's first women's magazine which aimed to inspire women to have active participation in community affairs. In 1961, she is also the first Thai recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service. The award was given for her role in giving "Thai women a new and creative role in nation-building." The award included $10,000, a gold medal and a certificate given to her and the other recipients.
Prayoon Chanyavongs was a Thai comics artist and cartoonist known as Thailand's King of Cartoons for his satirical comics which attacked corruption and political ills. He was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature and Creative Communication Arts in 1971.
Francisca Reyes-Aquino was a Filipino folk dancer and academic noted for her research on Philippine folk dance. She is a recipient of the Republic Award of Merit and the Ramon Magsaysay Award and is a designated National Artist of the Philippines for Dance.
