Rangan Banerjee currently holds the position of Director at IIT Delhi. As of February 2022, he is on lien from IIT Bombay, where he was the Forbes Marshall Chair Professor in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, a department he contributed to founding in 2007. His expertise encompasses energy management, system modeling, energy planning, policy, hydrogen energy, and fuel cells. [1] [2]

Academic career

Prof Banerjee is an editorial board member for several international journals, including the International Journal of Sustainable Energy and International Journal of Thermodynamics. He played a pivotal role in establishing a megawatt-scale Solar Thermal Power Testing and Research Facility funded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). [3] He also advises Team Shunya, the first Indian student team to reach the Solar Decathlon Europe finals. Prof. Banerjee has provided counsel to city and state energy entities, Niti Aayog, and MNRE on energy topics and has collaborated with various national and international companies. [4] [5]

In the past, he served as the Dean (R&D) at IIT Bombay, where he received the Excellence in Teaching Award and is recognized as a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering. Additionally, Prof. Banerjee holds an honorary adjunct faculty position in the Department of Engineering & Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. [6] [7]

Prior to his stint as DAE chairman, he was the director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) from 30 April 2004 to 19 May 2010. Kasturi Lal Chopra was an Indian materials physicist and a former director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He was the founder of the Thin Film Laboratory at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and the Microscience Laboratory at IIT, Kharagpur and held several US and Indian patents for his research findings. Author of a number of books on thin film technology, he was a recipient of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the highest Indian award in the science and technology categories. Balasubramanian Viswanathan also known as BV, is a highly accomplished Indian material scientist, an emeritus professor at IIT Madras and husband of late Vijayalakshmi Viswanathan, the first woman financial commissioner of Indian Railways. He is well known in the field of catalysis and material science and has been instrumental in setting up and running the first National Centre for Catalysis Research at IIT Madras. He has authored more than 30 books with top publishers including Springer Publishing, John Wiley & Sons, Elsevier, covering various aspects of material science, catalysis, nanotechnology, Energy, Fuel cells, CO2 reduction and has published more than 600 scientific journals. He is considered to be an authority on catalysis and material science in the scientific world and has an H-index of 61 resulting from more than 14,000 citations.

Devang Vipin Khakhar is an Indian chemical engineer and the former director of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. He is known for his pioneering researches on polymerization and is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies viz. Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy and National Academy of Sciences, India as well as Indian National Academy of Engineering. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards for his contributions to Engineering Sciences in 1997.

Sudhhasatwa Basu is an Indian chemical engineer. He was also a professor of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur from 1991 to 2011 and Director General of Centre for Development of Advanced Computing from 2009 to 2017.

Rajiv Shekhar is a professor at IIT Kanpur and he was the former director at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad. Prior to joining IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, he was working as a professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, IIT Kanpur. In recent times, he has been actively working towards research related to Solar thermal energy and applications.
