Ransford Brempong (born July 22, 1981) is a former Canadian National Team member and professional basketball player for the Fraser Valley Bandits of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). He currently works as the colour commentator for the team. He also runs WCT Hoops which is a basketball organization that offers high level training and development for athletes in high school. Where he continues to provide opportunities for the next generation of basketball players in BC through his Bubble24 teams. He also runs a primary age basketball club called 3PointBasketball where we look to cultivate the love for the game at an early age. [1]

Career

Brempong played college basketball for the Western Carolina Catamounts where he was a 5yr starter. While at WCU he broke his conferences all time shot block record. He then went on to play professionally and played for Matrixx Magixx and Donar (then named Hanzevast Capitals for sponsorship reasons) [2] in the Netherlands and Bayer Giants Leverkusen and Gloria Giants Düsseldorf in Germany.

In 2018, after being retired for 6 years Brempong joined the St. John's Edge of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC). He then went on to play for the Fraser Valley Bandits of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) in 2019. [3]


Brempong also spent nearly 8yrs playing for the Canadian National Team. He first made the Jr. National Team in 2001 and eventually made his way up the ranks to the Senior Mens team where he competed for 3 summers. During this time Brempong had the fortune to play with and against many basketball greats such as Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, Chris Paul, Dirk Nowitzki, Yao Ming, Steve Nash, Carmelo Anthony, Kelly Olynyk, and Kevin Martin.


Personal

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to parents from Ghana, west Africa. Brempong moved to Toronto in 1993 where he spent the rest of his elementary/high school days in Thornhill, Ontario. While in high school, Ransford was selected to the Toronto Star top 5 player in the greater Toronto area. He spent 5 yrs in North Carolina where he went to Western Carolina University. In 2012, he was in a car accident where he broke his back. He spent the next 4 years doing extensive rehab before being able to make a full recovery and play basketball again 6 yrs later. Ransford currently lives in North Vancouver, British Columbia. He is married and has 3 young kids. [4]

The 2021 CEBL season was the third season of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). It began on June 24, 2021. The CEBL planned to have fans at the home arenas, depending on the situation of the pandemic but would have had regional bubbles if needed. On June 10, 2021, the league announced that teams would be playing at their home arenas, but fans are still dependant on the provincial governments. On June 21, 2021, the league announced the playoffs would start on August 14, where four teams will play for two spots in the Championship Weekend. The final two spots will be filled in by the top team in the league and by the host team, Edmonton Stingers. The Championship Weekend will be held from August 18 to 22. Starting July 21, all seven teams were allowed to bring some amount of fans to the home games. The Edmonton Stingers defeated the Niagara River Lions 101–65 for their 2nd consecutive CEBL title, becoming the league's first back-to-back champions.

The 2021 CEBL–U Sports Draft is the Third CEBL Draft, being revealed on April 14. Seven Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) teams will select 21 athletes in total.

The 2022 CEBL season was the fourth season of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). It began on May 25, 2022, and ended on August 1, 2022. There will be play-in games on August 4 where the 5th to 8th seed will compete to play in the playoffs. The playoffs will start on August 6. The Championship weekend will be from August 12 to the 14; the Ottawa Blackjacks will be hosting the event. It is also the inaugural season for the Montreal Alliance, Newfoundland Growlers, and the Scarborough Shooting Stars. The Hamilton Honey Badgers defeated the Scarborough Shooting Stars 90–88, for their first CEBL championship in franchise history. They will represent Canada in the 2022-23 BCL Americas season.

The 2022 CEBL–U Sports Draft is the Fourth CEBL Draft, being revealed on April 19. 10 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) teams will select 20 athletes in total.

Kadre Gray is a Canadian professional basketball point guard with GTK Gliwice of the Polish Basketball League. He previously played for the Fraser Valley Bandits and Ottawa BlackJacks of the Canadian Elite Basketball League. With Ottawa, he was named all-CEBL second team and CEBL Canadian Player of the Year during the 2023 season after averaging 16.3 points and a league-best 6.3 assists per game.
