Rapu-rapu Island is an island in the Philippines comprising the municipality of Rapu-rapu in the province of Albay. The island is situated in the Lagonoy Gulf.

Lagonoy Gulf Body of water

Lagonoy Gulf is a large gulf in the Bicol Peninsula of Luzon island in the Philippines. It is separated from the Philippine Sea by the Caramoan Peninsula in the north; and is separated from Albay Gulf in the south by a chain of islands including Batan Island and Rapu-rapu Island. It is about 3,070 square kilometres (1,190 sq mi) in area, with 80% of its area between 800 metres (2,600 ft) and 1,200 metres (3,900 ft) deep.

Batan Island is an island barangay in the Lagonoy Gulf in the Philippines. Along with Rapu-rapu Island it forms the municipality of Rapu-rapu, in the province of Albay in the Bicol region. Batan Island comprises several barangays which includes Batan, Bagaobawan, Manila, and Bilbao.

William Mulloy

William Thomas Mulloy Jr. was an American anthropologist. While his early research established him as a formidable scholar and skillful fieldwork supervisor in the province of North American Plains archaeology, he is best known for his studies of Polynesian prehistory, especially his investigations into the production, transportation and erection of the monumental statuary on Rapa Nui known as moai.

Albays 2nd congressional district

Albay's 2nd congressional district is one of the three congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Albay. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1916 and earlier in the Philippine Assembly from 1907 to 1916. The district consists of Albay's capital city of Legazpi and adjacent municipalities of Camalig, Daraga, Manito and Rapu-Rapu. Hawaiioscia rapui is a species of woodlouse endemic to the island of Rapa Nui. The specific epithet honors Sergio Rapu Haoa, a humanitarian, archaeologist, anthropologist, and politician of Rapanui descent who aided research terms studying this species. It persists as a relict population near the mouths of caves on the island, and is in dire need of conservation. It faces threats such as habitat reduction, non-native species competition, and global climate change. Styloniscus manuvaka is the only other native Isopod on the island, and faces the same perils.
