The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (abbreviated as CPI(M)) is a communist political party in India. It is the largest communist party in India in terms of membership and electoral seats,and one of the national parties of India. The party was founded through a splitting from the Communist Party of India in 1964 and it quickly became the dominant faction.

Prior to the 2018 Tripura Legislative Assembly election Sen won twice on the Congress ticket. On 2017 Sen joined Bharatiya Janata Party and won the 2018 Assembly elections by a margin of 7287 votes.
Sudip Roy Barman is an Indian politician from Tripura. He served as the MLA of the Tripura Legislative Assembly from the Agartala constituency which he held since 1998 by winning four elections consecutively on INC ticket by handsome margins. In 2018,he contested from Agartala constituency and won on BJP ticket. On 7 February 2022,he quit BJP and resigned from his MLA post. On 8 February he joined the Indian National Congress in Delhi. Again on 23 June 2022,he contested from Agartala constituency and won on INC ticket defeating his nearest rival of BJP by more than 3500 votes.

Prior to his election as Deputy Speaker,Kar was Industry Minister of Tripura from 1998 to 2004. He was Chairman (2008–2013) of the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation.
