Rathmines College is an educational institution in Rathmines, Dublin. The college offers several Further Education courses in areas not limited to accounting, business, computing, media studies, and office administration.
The college was established by Rathmines Urban District Council as the Rathmines Municipal Technical Institute at 24 Rathmines Road in 1901. [2] It was renamed the College of Commerce of Commerce, Rathmines in 1936, [3] and relocated to Rathmines Town Hall in 1980. [4]
The college has two campuses in Rathmines, the first in the former Rathmines Town Hall and the second in two period houses at 28-29 Leinster Road. [5]
Rathmines College operates under the patronage of the City of Dublin Education and Training Board (City of Dublin ETB), known as the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee (CDVEC) prior to 2013.
Rathmines College offers qualifications at levels 5 and 6 on Ireland's National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). These courses are accredited by the Quality and Qualifications Ireland ("QQI"), and by the Business and Technology Education Council ("BTEC").
Among its accounting programmes are the Accounting Technicians Ireland (ATI) Certificate, Diploma and Apprenticeship courses, [6] the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Certified Accounting Technician and the Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business ACCA Award.
The college also offers a one-year repeat leaving certificate course.
Technical and further education or simply TAFE is the common name in English-speaking countries in Oceania for vocational education, as a subset of tertiary education. TAFE institutions provide a wide range of predominantly vocational courses.

An Institute of Technology (IT) is a type of higher education college found in Ireland. In 2018, there were a total of fourteen colleges that use the title of Institute of Technology, which were created from the late 1960s and were formerly known as Regional Technical Colleges. The exception to this was Dublin Institute of Technology which emerged independently of the Regional College system. The Technological Universities Act of 2018 allowed the merger of two or more IoTs into Technological Universities, which saw the creation of the Technological University Dublin in 2019; Munster Technological University and Technological University Shannon: Midlands Midwest in 2021; and Atlantic Technological University and South East Technological University in 2022.
An engineering technologist is a professional trained in certain aspects of development and implementation of a respective area of technology. An education in engineering technology concentrates more on application and less on theory than does an engineering education. Engineering technologists often assist engineers; but after years of experience, they can also become engineers. Like engineers, areas where engineering technologists can work include product design, fabrication, and testing. The Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC), the legal successor to the National Council for Educational Awards (NCEA), granted higher education awards in Ireland beyond the university system from 2001 to 2012. HETAC was created in 2001, subject to the policies of the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland, and, specifically, granted qualifications at many Institutes of Technology and other colleges. HETAC was dissolved and its functions were passed to Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) on 6 November 2012.

The King's Inns of Dublin has a limited role in education specialising in the preparation of candidates for the degree of barrister-at-law to practice as barristers. Medical schools in Ireland also have particular regulation. There were seven establishments of higher education within Ireland ranked among the top 500 universities worldwide by the Times Higher Education Supplement in 2023.
