Ratingen Ost is a station situated in Ratingen in the German state of North Rhine Westphalia and is a station of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn.
It was opened in 1872 as the Ratingen station of the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company (German : Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft, BME) along with the Ruhr Valley Railway. After the nationalisation of the BME, it received its current name in the 19th century. [4] The station is located between the Ratingen districts of Ost (east) and Mitte (central) and is mainly used by commuters into Düsseldorf.
From the former freight yard, the now dismantled railway sidings ran to the nearby firms of the Balcke-Dürr company and the Wilhelm Pulch foundry and steelworks. The former freight yard was replaced by a parking lot.
Ratingen Ost station is served by line S6 of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn at 20-minute intervals [5] and has an island platform with its entrance at the northern end of the platform. There is direct access from the bus station, which is served by ten bus lines, [5] as well as the parking area in Josef-Schappe-Straße. Until the conversion for the S-Bahn, the station had a home platform (next to the station building) and two island platforms.

The Ruhr Valley Railway is a partly abandoned railway line in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, running from Düsseldorf-Rath via Old Kupferdreh station, Bochum-Dahlhausen, Witten-Herbede, Hagen-Vorhalle and Schwerte to Warburg. It was built between 1872 and 1876 by the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company, one of the three major private railway companies in the Ruhr area. The railway tracks that were built along the Ruhr river had a relatively uniform grade that was suitable for railway operations at the time.
Düsseldorf Völklinger Straße station is a through station in the district of Unterbilk in the city of Düsseldorf in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Bochum-Langendreer station is now a stop on the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn in the district of Langendreer in eastern Bochum in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Langendreer formerly had a 40 hectare marshalling yard, which is now used as a depot, with the location code of EBLA. Until the 1980s, the yard was also the location of a passenger station, which was served by express trains.

The station opened on 29 May 1988 on the new line built with the Hamm railway bridge opened by the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company on 24 July 1870.
The Bochum–Essen/Oberhausen railway was built by the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company to the north of its main line through the central Ruhr to tap traffic from mines and factories in the northern Ruhr region, which is now in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
