Rauna (German : Ronneburg) is a village in Rauna Parish, Smiltene Municipality in the Vidzeme region of Latvia. [1] It is the administrative center of Rauna Parish. The community developed around a medieval bishop's castle.
Cēsis, is a town in Latvia located in the northern part of the Central Vidzeme Upland. Cēsis is on the Gauja River valley, and is built on a series of ridges above the river, overlooking the woods below. Cēsis was selected to be one of the candidate cities for the title of the European Capital of Culture 2014.
Cēsis District was an administrative division of Latvia, located in the Vidzeme region, in the country's north-east. It bordered the former districts of Valmiera and Valka to the north, Limbaži and Riga to the west, Gulbene to the east, Ogre and Madona to the south. Matti Heikki Ilmari Morottaja or Kuobž-Saammâl Matti, is an Inari Sámi author, teacher and member of the Sami Parliament of Finland, serving as president for six years. He has served as president of the Inari Sámi Language Association since its foundation. His sons, Petter and Mikkâl, have also promoted the use of Inari Sámi in their own way: Petter as the editor-in-chief of Kierâš, a digital weekly in Inari Sámi and Mikkâl as the first rapper to rap in Inari Sámi in the world. Morottaja received the Mikael Agricola Prize from the Finnish Cultural Foundation on 1 April 2007.

Rauna Castle ruins are located in the village of Rauna in Rauna Parish, Smiltene Municipality, in the Vidzeme region of Latvia. The castle was the principal residence of the Archbishopric of Riga, and was visited each year by the Archbishop and his entourage. During the 16th century, it was greatly expanded and a settlement developed around the castle. It was first demolished in the 17th century, but the towers and parts of the castle still remain.

At 12th World Rogaining Championships in Black Hills, South Dakota in 2014 they won the third consecutive title of World Rogaining Champions.

Pēteris Zālīte was a Latvian philosopher, journalist and politician. He became a member of the 3rd Saeima in January 1931, representing the Labour League of Latvia and replacing Kārlis Balodis. In the elections to the 4th Saeima in October 1931, he retained his seat, which he held until the Saeima was dissolved following the 1934 Latvian coup d'état.
