Darshan Ravindra Abeysuriya also popularly known as Ravi Abeysuriya was a Sri Lankan accountant, educator and financial analyst. He was regarded as one of the topmost finance sector professionals in Sri Lanka. He was also considered as officially the first Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder in Sri Lanka. [1] He also served as the President of the Colombo Stock Brokers Association for a brief stint. [2]
During his career, he had established and managed various financial sector institutions catering to prominent fields such as investment research outsourcing, credit rating, asset management, stock broking and investment banking. [3] He obtained the fellow membership of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in UK. He also received his MBA from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. He played an instrumental role in founding the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) community in Sri Lanka and was popularly known as the CFA Society and Ravi Abeysuriya eventually acted as its first founding President. He served as chairman of Colombo City Holdings PLC, Sherwood Capital (Pvt) Ltd. [6] [7] He also served as non-executive independent director of Seylan Bank PLC, Bio Foods (Pvt) Ltd, Candor Shared Services Ltd, Candor Equities Ltd and HNB Assurance PLC. [8] He also showed his glimpse of leadership prowess at Hayleys PLC as the Head of Strategic Business Development and Shared Services unit of the Hayleys PLC. [8] He also went on to serve as the managing director of Fitch Ratings Lanka which was the first global credit rating agency to operate in Sri Lanka. [4] Ravi was the founding member of Fitch Ratings Lanka and during his tenure as the managing director of Fitch Ratings Lanka, he established a robust credit rating system in Sri Lanka. He also had a stint as the Head of Corporate Finance at Jardine Fleming HNB Capital Ltd between 1997 and 1999. He also served as managing director of Amba Research Lanka which was a prominent investment research outsourcing company. He also served as the President of Stock Brokers Association of Sri Lanka and he also had advised the Government of Sri Lanka to encourage the listing of State owned enterprises in Colombo Stock Exchange in order to foster better performance levels. [9] In addition, he also had a brief stint as the director of Sri Lanka Insurance. [10]
He possessed nearly two decades of hands-on practical experience and broad knowledge about financial market operations in Sri Lanka and experience with related fundamental concepts of financial market operations. [11] He also served as a financial expert by giving policy recommendations for implementation of major financial sector reforms. He also collaborated with important regulatory bodies in Sri Lanka including the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka and the Colombo Stock Exchange. [11] He was appointed the commission member of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka in 2007 where he was engaged in capital market supervision as well as training the staff. [12] He also worked closely with the Ministry of Finance in providing technical support in addressing the key concerns with regards to fiscal policy measures in Sri Lanka. [4] He also functioned as a permanent member of the Financial Sector Reforms Committee which operated as a special prime minister task force for a considerable period of time. He also received membership of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. [10]
He also co-authored a book alongside the Central Bank of Sri Lanka titled Financial Literacy to Achieve Your Financial Wellbeing with the intention to raise financial literacy and awareness among general public in Sri Lanka. [13] [14] In May 2017, he was conferred with the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Volunteer of the Year Award from the CFA Institute and he was presented the award during a ceremony held at Society Leadership Conference held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [15] In October 2018, he was appointed as an independent director at Seylan Bank. [10] [16]
He died on 25 October 2023 after being diagnosed with a sudden illness. [17]
The mixed economy of Sri Lanka was worth $84 billion by nominal gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019 and $296.959 billion by purchasing power parity (PPP). The country had experienced an annual growth of 6.4 percent from 2003 to 2012, well above its regional peers. This growth was driven by the growth of non-tradable sectors, which the World Bank warned to be both unsustainable and unequitable. Growth has slowed since then. In 2019 with an income per capita of 13,620 PPP Dollars or 3,852 (2019) nominal US dollars, Sri Lanka was re-classified as a lower middle income nation with the population around 22 million (2021) by the World Bank from a previous upper middle income status.

It is the first and only insurance company in Sri Lanka to be assigned a prime AAA− rating for Insurance Financial Strength from the US rating agency Fitch Ratings New York City. The company now manages assets worth over US$1102 Million.
People's Bank is a state-owned commercial bank in Sri Lanka. The second largest commercial bank in Sri Lanka. Established on 1 July 1961, it has its head-offices at Sir Chittampalam A. Gardiner Street in Colombo. The bank offer both retail and corporate banking services, with a network of 739 local branches, service centers and has an asset base of LKR 1.873 trillion (2019) with over 14 million customers. People's Bank received a high national long-Term Rating of AA+ by Fitch Rating. People's Bank most awarded state-owned company such as "Green Plus" "Carbon Conscious Award". People's Bank became Sri Lanka's best performing bank. Bank mainly targets small and medium enterprise. India has extended multiple credit lines and currency support to Sri Lanka, aligning with its policy of prioritizing neighboring nations and fostering strong relationships as a friendly neighboring country.
Ranee Jayamaha also spelt as Rani Jayamaha is a Sri Lankan economist, author and banker. She served as the chairperson of Hatton National Bank from 2011 to 2015. In addition, she is currently an advisor to the President of Sri Lanka in Banking and a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (2004–2009). She has also served as a member of the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka and a member of Securities and Exchange Commission.

Edirisinghe Trust Investments Finance Limited also popularly known as ETI Finance is a Sri Lankan private limited company as well as a non banking financial institution which worked as a licensed finance company accepting deposits from general public. The company's business was primarily based on lending money on gold securities. On 13 July 2020, Central Bank of Sri Lanka decided to cancel the license of the company due to insufficient capital and financial problems regarding repaying depositors' money on demand as well as before maturity.

Originally starting as a non-banking financial company LOLC has grown into one of the largest Sri Lankan conglomerates involved in many sectors and subsidiaries in several countries although it is still mainly involved in the financial sector.

The company is also taking part in financial services and manufacturing businesses. The company is listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange since 1981 and in 2017, the Sri Lankan conglomerate, Hayleys acquired the majority of the shares. Singer is ranked 17th in the LMD 100, an annual list of listed companies in Sri Lanka by revenue, in 2020/21 edition. Brand Finance ranked the company 15th most valuable brand in Sri Lanka in its annual list of top 100 brands.
Central Finance Company PLC is one of the oldest non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) in Sri Lanka having founded in 1957. The company is listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in 1969. Brand Finance ranked the company the 28th most valuable brand in Sri Lanka for the year 2021. Central Finance Company was ranked 44th in the LMD 100 for the fiscal year 2019/20 by LMD.
L B Finance PLC sometimes spelt LB Finance, is a Sri Lankan non-bank financial institution. The company is incorporated in 1971 and initially, the majority of shares were held by Lewis Brown & Company. The company was listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in 1997. In 2003, Dhammika Perera acquired the company and became a subsidiary of Vallibel One. Currently, the company is one of the components of the S&P Sri Lanka 20 Index. Brand Finance ranked the company 24th in the 100 most valuable brands in Sri Lanka. The company placed 39th in the LMD 100 for the financial year 2019/20.
People's Leasing & Finance PLC, sometimes called People's Leasing Company or commonly abbreviated PLC, is a licensed non-banking financial company in Sri Lanka. The company is ranked 30th in LMD 100, an annual list of leading listed companies in Sri Lanka. Brand Finance placed the company 21st amongst the 100 most valuable brands in Sri Lanka. The company was incorporated in 1995 and in 2010 listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange. 75% of the shares of the company is held by the People's Bank, one of the two government-held banks of Sri Lanka.

Sunshine Holdings was incorporated on 16 June 1973, and listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in 1983. Sunshine Holdings ranked 45th in LMD 100, a list of quoted companies in Sri Lanka by revenue in the 2020/21 edition.

ACL Cables PLC is a cable manufacturing company in Sri Lanka. ACL Cables manufactures and sells power cables, conductors, armoured cables and telephone cables. The company was established in 1962 as Associated Cables, a subsidiary of Associated Motorways. The company was publicly quoted in 1976. In 1980, the company moved out of Associated Motorways Group and was renamed ACL Cables in 1990. ACL Cables is one of the LMD 100 companies in Sri Lanka.
Kelani Tyres PLC is a tyre manufacturing company in Sri Lanka. Kelani Tyres originates in the privatisation of the government-owned Ceylon Tyre Corporation. Initially, privatisation is met with extreme employee industrial action for several months. Once the employee unrest dwindled, the company entered into an agreement with CEAT to set up a joint venture in 1993. In 1994, Kelani Tyres was listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange. In 2022, CEAT was amongst the 100 most valuable brands in Sri Lanka. The company moved to meet the total domestic demand for bus and truck tyres which would save LKR11 billion in foreign exchange through import substitution.
Bimputh Finance PLC was a Sri Lankan public limited company and functioned as a licensed finance company. It was a listed company in the Colombo Stock Exchange from 2012 to 2023. In September 2023, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka cancelled the operating license of the company due to the breach of regulatory requirements.
