Ravi Sharma is a philanthropist who supports initiatives focused on sustainable societies, inclusive education, and spirituality. He is an alumnus of IIT Roorkee and the former chief executive officer of EuropeStar (Asia), Alcatel and Alcatel Lucent (South Asia), Videocon Telecom (India) and Adani Powers (India).

He is currently the Chairman - Board of Governors of IIIT Una, Himachal Pradesh and IIIT Nagpur, Maharashtra, Executive Chairman of Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association and President of the IIT Alumni Council, which has association membership of 50000 students and staff from across the world.

He started Non Government Organisation, "Mission Chetna", training 70 NGOs from all over India with member strength of 10 million and also founder of "Prama Jyoti Foundation" which is working for transforming schools of rural India.

Education

Ravi Sharma did primary schooling in Chakia, a small village near Varanasi. [1] He did B Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Roorkee in 1984 and passed with a Distinguished status [2] [3] and he did Management in Business Administration(MBA)[ citation needed ].

Career

Sharma worked as chief executive officer (CEO) of several companies including EuropeStar (Asia), Alcatel and Alcatel Lucent (South Asia), Videocon Telecom (India) and Adani Powers (India). [4]

In 2020, he was appointed as the new executive chairman of Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association [5] [6]

In 2023, he was appointed as chairperson - Board of Governors, Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Una, [7] [8] HP. He also holds the additional charge as chairperson - Board of Governors, IIIT Nagpur, MS. [9] [10]

Philanthropy

In 2012 when he turned 50, after working for 13–14 years as CEO in several companies he decided to quit the corporate world to dedicate to philanthropy. [1] [11] Sharma started Non Government Organisation "Mission Chetna," training 70 NGOs all over India having 10 million beneficiaries all over India. He is also founder of the "Prama Jyoti Foundation", which transforms rural India schools. [12] To promote spread of knowledge of Vedas,he established Subodhanand Foundation, in memory of his spiritual Guru. [11]

Hobby

Ravi Sharma writes Hindi poems and ghazals. He has published a book and also released an album that features popular singers. [13]

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is a technical university located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. It is the oldest engineering institution in India. Ravi Kant is an Indian executive who had served as the vice chairman from 2 June 2009 to 31 May 2014 and the managing director of Tata Motors from 29 July 2005 to 1 June 2009. He is known to lead Tata Motors in its tough times.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are a network of engineering and technology institutions in India. Established in 1950, they are under the purview of the Ministry of Education of the Indian Government and are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961. Professor Pravindra Kumar is an Indian biophysicist, bioinformatician, biochemist and Professor & Head Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Indian Institute Of Technology–Roorkee (IIT–Roorkee) India. He is known for his work on protein-protein interactions, protein engineering and structure-based drug design. Prof. Pravindra Kumar's primary research interest lies in studying Bacterial enzymes and pathways involved in the degradation of toxic aromatic compounds, such as PCBs, dibenzofuran, chlorodibenzofurans, DDT, dyes, and plastics/plasticizers. He focuses particularly on oxidoreductases enzymes due to their unique ability to catalyze challenging reactions, with a special emphasis on understanding their catalytic mechanisms and structural basis for guiding protein engineering. One notable achievement of his research group is the successful engineering of dioxygenases capable of metabolizing various toxic compounds, including those found in plastics.
