Rayat Shikshan Sanstha is an educational society based in Satara, Maharashtra, India. It operates 34 colleges in Paschim Maharashtra.

History

In 1882, Jyotirao Phule made a demand for providing free education for all. The social reforms movement in the 19th century in Maharashtra brought changes in the nice systems. Schools in rural areas were started by the then princely states of Baroda and Mysore. Shahu, the ruler of Kolhapur State, even brought in the reservation system in education. Bhaurao Patil was influenced by these reforms and took to educating the children of rural Maharashtra. In October 1919, during the meeting of Satyashodhak Samaj at Kale, Patil decided to form Rayat Shikshan. Shri Ramchandra Bhaurao Bagal was the respective honourable personality known as Bagal master ( he was professor also) whose got an opportunity to be management head of the first boarding school started in Kale of largest educational organization in Asia named Rayat Shikshan Sanstha. His first student was gholap. Hon. P.G.Patil saheb has mentioned about shri Ramchandra Bhaurao Bagal in his book named "Karmveer Upnishad", where Karmveer Bhaurao patil has said ,"I can never repay debt of Bagal master". [1] "Rayat" meaning "subjects" was also used mainly as "peasants class" by the then British government. [2]

Patil started with providing hostel facilities in towns to children of rural areas and thus making it possible for them to take education. He then established schools, colleges and teacher's training institutes. In May 1959, when Patil died, the organization had 38 hostels, 578 non-governmental schools, 3 colleges and 6 teacher's training institutes. [2]

Rayat Shikshan Sanstha's Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College(formerly known as Modern College ) is a college in Juhu Nagar (Vashi) Navi Mumbai. The college was established in 1979 and was affiliated with the University of Mumbai, but is now conferred with Autonomy since 2018. The college is named after Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil, a social activist and educationist and the founder of the Rayat Education Society. In 2017 College Accredited by NAAC with A+ & 'Best College Award' by University of Mumbai.

Bhaurao Patil, was a social activist and educator in Maharashtra, India. A strong advocate of mass education, he founded the Rayat Education Society. Bhaurao played an important role in educating backward castes and low income people by coining the philosophy earn and learn. He was a prominent member of Satyashodhak Samaj, founded by Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. The people of Maharashtra honoured him with the sobriquet Karmaveer and the Government of India awarded him with Padma Bhushan in 1959 in India.

It is famous for its chemistry department, which conducts vigorous research in various areas of experimental chemistry. M.Sc. Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics degrees are given by this college. College is having Ph.D. research center in Chemistry and Commerce.

Patangrao Kadam was an Indian politician from the state of Maharashtra. He came from a middle level farmer family in a small village, Sonsal in Sangli district. He previously held the forest ministry in the Maharashtra government. He was also an educationist and was the founder of Bharati Vidyapeeth. Kadam died of renal dysfunction at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital on 9 March 2018.

Kolpewadi is a village in Kopargaon taluka, Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra, India. It is located about 27 kilometres (17 mi) from Shirdi (Saibaba) and 78 kilometres (48 mi) from Nasik. 114 kilometres (71 mi) north of the district headquarters of Ahmednagar and 220 kilometres (140 mi) from the state capital at Mumbai, it is a part of Northern Maharashtra region and Nashik division. Kolpewadi had a population of 5449, of whom 2787 were male and 2662 female, at the time of the 2011 Census of India. There were 742 children aged 0–6, being 13.62% of the total population. The Average Sex Ratio was 955, which was higher than the Maharashtra state average of 929. The Child Sex Ratio was 878, lower than the Maharashtra average of 894. 2318 people were engaged in work activities. 93.57% of workers describe their work as Main Work while 6.43% were involved in Marginal activity providing livelihood for less than 6 months. Of the 2318 workers, 489 were cultivators while 1001 were agricultural labourers. Scheduled Tribes constituted 6.39% of to populate and Scheduled Castes were 6.09%.

Bhaskarrao Tukaram Auti was a freedom fighter who played a major role in Indian Independence movement and was elected as a MLA for four consecutive terms from Parner District Ahmednagar Constituency. He won a seat representing Parner in the 1952 and 1957 Bombay Legislative Assembly elections. In the 1952 election, he stood as a Communist Party of India candidate. He was the first Communist MLA of India in the first general elections conducted post-independence. He obtained 12,570 votes (56.67%). In the 1957 election, he stood as an independent, obtaining 14,519 votes (71.05%). In the 1962 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election he finished in second place in Parner, obtaining 6,787 votes (24.93%).

Nagnath Naikwadi (1922–2012), popularly known as Krantiveer Nagnath anna, was an Indian independence activist, social worker, politician and educationist, known for his revolutionary activism during the Indian independence struggle. He was an associate of Nana Patil during the Quit India movement and together they established Prati Sarkar, a parallel government, in Satara-Sangli region of Maharashtra and indulged in armed struggle against the British. After the Indian independence, he was involved in electoral politics and was a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, representing Sangli. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 2009, for his contributions to Indian society.

Annasaheb Awate Arts, Commerce & Hutatma Babu Genu Science College, is an undergraduate and postgraduate, coeducational college situated in Mancher, Pune district, Maharashtra. It was established in the year 1966. The college is affiliated with Pune University.

Anand Balwant Patil is a Marathi and English creative writer, postcolonial, comparatist, culturalist translator –scholar from Maharashtra –Goa, India. Starting with his debut rural novellas and research on the ‘Western Influences on Marathi Drama 1818-1947’ Patil set new trends in rural fiction. His Icchamarn is the compendious epic novel on a village. It is regarded as a masterpiece of gramin (rural) fiction. He is the recipient of four Government of Maharashtra Awards for extraordinary literary works and also other thirteen literary awards. He is the founder of Aranyanand Shikshan, Sahitya va Sanskriti Pratisthan and Anand Granthsagar Prkashan.

Prin. Dr. P. B. Patil was a member of the Sangli Assembly constituency of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (1972-1978), a social reformer who worked for the cause of education and rural development in Maharashtra, India. He was born in a small farmer's family in Chikurde village of Walwa Taluka in Sangli district, Maharashtra, India.

Shri Raosaheb Ramrao Patil Mahavidyalaya is an arts and science college of Sangli District in Maharashtra India. It was established in June 1991 and recognized by Government of Maharashtra and University Grants Commission, New Delhi. It is affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur and nationally assessed and accredited Institution by NAAC, Bangaluru. It was founded by Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil, who established Rayat Shikshan Sanstha in 1919.
