Rebecca Wilke Mann (born November 26, 1997 in Homer Glen, Illinois) is an American open water swimmer and writer. [1] [2]
Mann swam her first 10k at age seven. At age 10, she became the youngest person to swim the 15 kilometer Maui Channel from Maui to Lanai. [3]
In 2011, Mann qualified for the Olympic Trials for open water and pool swimming, one of the youngest swimmers to do so. At the 2012 Olympic Trials, she placed fifth in the 400 IM and 800 freestyle, sixth in the 400 freestyle, and tenth in the 200 butterfly, not qualifying for the 2012 Olympic team, but becoming the youngest person to ever place in the Top 10 in 4 different events. She trained with Randy Reese at the Clearwater Aquatic Team, then moved to Baltimore to train under Bob Bowman with Michael Phelps and Allison Schmitt. [5] [6] [7] [8] She swam for University of Southern California for two years before going pro, when she returned to training under Bowman at Sun Devil Aquatics. [9] [10] [11]
Mann is a National Champion, having won gold in the 10k at USA Swimming Open Water Nationals in both 2014 and 2015. [12] [13] [14] [15]
Mann competed at the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships, placing 6th in the 800 freestyle and 9th in the 400 IM. [16] She competed at the 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, winning gold in the 800 meter freestyle at the Berlin stop. [17] At the 2013 World Aquatics Championships, she placed 8th in both the 5k and 10k open water events. [18] At 2015 World Aquatics Championships, she placed 14th in the open water 10k, and 10th in the 800 meter freestyle. [19] At 2017 World Aquatics Championships, she placed 7th in the open water 25k. [20] She also competed at the 2017 Summer Universiade, and 2019 Pan American Games, winning a bronze medal in the 1500 meters. [21] [22] [23]
Mann competed in the 2016 Olympic Trials, but performed poorly due to suffering herniated disks and overtraining shortly before the competition. [3]
In 2019, she became the first person to ever complete the Triple Maui Nui Channel Swim, a 40 mile channel crossing from Maui to Molokai to Lanai back to Maui. [24] [25] [26] [27]
Mann was born in Homer Glen, Illinois. She has two sisters. [3]
Mann was homeschooled through high school in order to focus on her swimming career. [28] Mann then attended University of Southern California, where she studied screenwriting. [29]
Erica Lara Rose was an American competition swimmer who specialized in long-distance and open water events. Rose was a 5 km World Aquatics champion in Perth, Australia at only fifteen in 1998, was a four-time Pan American swim marathon gold medalist, a Pan Pacific 3.1 mile champion in 1997 in Melbourne, Australia, and a ten-time National Open Water swim marathon champion at 5 km, 10 km, and 25 km distances between 1997 and 2007. She competed with Cleveland's Lake Erie Silver Dolphins, Hawken High School Swim Team, the Northwestern University Swim Team, and for twelve years with the USA Swimming National Team.

Chloe Elizabeth Sutton Mackey is an American former competition swimmer who specializes in freestyle and long-distance events. Sutton represented the United States at two consecutive Olympic Games. Sutton has won a total of five medals in major international competition, three gold, one silver, and one bronze spanning the Open Water Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, and Pan American Games. She was a member of the 2012 United States Olympic team, and competed in the 400-meter freestyle at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Andrew Douglas Gemmell is an American competition swimmer who specialized in long-distance freestyle events. He swam for the University of Georgia, helping then to place 5th in the NCAA in 2014, and was a member of the 2012 United States Olympic Team, where he competed in the 1,500-meter freestyle event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. At the Olympics, he finished ninth with a time of 14:59:05, missing the semi-finals by one place. He took several distance swimming medals, with a gold at the 5 km team event in the 2011 World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai, and took medals at the Pan Pacific Championships in 2014 and the Pan American Games in 2015 in the 1500 m, 5 km and 10 km events.
Eva Fabian is an American-Israeli open water swimmer. She was the 2010 world champion in the 5-kilometer swim, and won a gold medal at the 2015 Pan American Games in the women's 10k.
Ana Marcela Jesus Soares da Cunha is a Brazilian swimmer who specializes in the open water swimming marathon. She is considered one of the best open water swimmers in history, having obtained 17 medals in FINA World Aquatics Championships. She has also received FINA’s Female World Open Water Swimmer Of The Year award six times. Her countless achievements are comparable only to those of Larisa Ilchenko, another multi-medalist in World Championships.
Luis Ricardo Escobar Torres is a Mexican swimmer who specialized in open water marathon. In 2010, Escobar became the first ever swimmer to claim an open water swimming title at the Mexican National Championships in Puerto Vallarta, clocking at 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 23.25 seconds. He is also the older brother of Susana Escobar, a long-distance freestyle swimmer, a two-time Olympian, and a member of the swimming team for the Texas Longhorns.
Ashley Grace Twichell is an American competition swimmer who specializes in long-distance freestyle and open-water events. She placed seventh in the 10 kilometer open water swim at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Twichell's age at her Olympic Games debut, 32 years of age, made her the oldest American swimmer first-timer at an Olympic Games since 1908.
Jordan Matthew Wilimovsky is an American competitive swimmer who specializes in open water swimming. At the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Russia, Wilimovsky won the gold medal in the 10 km open water event. Wilimovsky won by a margin of 12.1 seconds over the second-place finisher Ferry Weertman of the Netherlands. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Wilimovsky competed in both pool swimming and open water swimming events, becoming the first American to swim in both types of events at one Olympic Games.
Florian Wellbrock is a German swimmer. He is the world record holder in the short course 1500 metre freestyle. He is an Olympic champion, multiple World Champion and European champion, in both Long and Short Courses. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, he won gold in the 10 kilometre open water and bronze in the 1500 metre freestyle. In total, Wellbrock has won 28 medals at international competitions of which 20 are gold. This includes his gold medal at the Olympic games, six at the World Championships, six at the Swimming World Cup and six at the Open Water Swimming World Cup.
Rachele Bruni is an Italian swimmer, specialising in open water long-distance races. She won the silver medal in the 10 km marathon at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in 10 km open water. She won the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Series 3 times in 2015, 2016 and 2019.

She is a world record holder in two sports, with a world record in swimming, the short course 4×200-metre freestyle relay, and world records in life saving for the youth age group in the 100-metre rescue medley and 200-metre super lifesaver. She holds the Oceanian, Commonwealth, and Australian records in the short course 1500-metre freestyle and the Australian record in the short course 800-metre freestyle. She is the first female World Short Course champion in the 1500-metre freestyle, winning the inaugural event for women at the 2022 edition. Claire Weinstein is an American Olympic freestyle swimmer, who swims for Las Vegas-based swim team the Sandpipers of Nevada. At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, Weinstein helped Team USA win the gold medal in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay.
