Rebekah Teasdale (2 January 1980) is a British DJ and dance music producer, known professionally as DJ Rebekah. She runs the Decoy and Elements labels, and produces and deejays industrial techno and hardstyle.

Early life

Rebekah Teasdale grew up in Birmingham, going to techno parties at the Que Club and studying music production at Access Creative College. She also worked as a glamour model. [1] [2]

Career

DJ Rebekah started to play records professionally whilst in her twenties, signing up with Judge Jules' agency Serious. She moved to London and then Berlin, making a name as a DJ for playing industrial techno sets. [1] She met Chris Liebing and was released on his CLR label. [3] She has released tracks on labels such as EarToGround, Gynoid Audio, Naked Lunch, Sleaze and Stolen Moments. She runs the record labels Decoy Records and Elements and released her first LP entitled Fear Paralysis in 2017. [4] [5] She was voted best producer by DJ Mag in 2018. [6] [7]

DJ Rebekah now performs sober. [8] In September 2020, she released an open letter to the music industry on Change.org following allegations of sexual assault against Eric Morrillo and Derrick May, launching a campaign called #ForTheMusic. [9] [10]

Hardcore is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany in the early 1990s. It is distinguished by faster tempos and a distorted sawtooth kick, the intensity of the kicks and the synthesized bass, the rhythm and the atmosphere of the themes, the usage of saturation and experimentation close to that of industrial dance music. It would spawn subgenres such as gabber.

Her music is best described as a blend of IDM and techno music, which is dance-floor oriented and has noticeable experimental elements.

Uroš Umek, better known as DJ Umek or simply UMEK, is a Slovenian dance music producer and DJ. Musically active since 1993, he is the owner of several techno record labels. In 1999 he founded Consumer Recreation and Recycled Loops, the former of which he co-runs with Valentino Kanzyani. Recycled Loops formed the sublabel Earresistible Musick in 2001, and in 2007 Umek founded the large techno label 1605.

The Liquor Store was a bar, restaurant, and music venue in Portland, Oregon. Established in 2015, the business operated in a space previously occupied by the Blue Monk, a jazz club and restaurant, in southeast Portland's Sunnyside neighborhood. It was named the city's best new bar in Willamette Week's annual readers' poll in 2015 and 2016. The Liquor Store's upstairs had a bar and the owner's large vinyl record collection on display. The downstairs venue hosted live music and disc jockeys, playing a variety of genres, especially electronic music.

Meg Ward is a British electronic dance music disc jockey and record producer from Pontefract, England. She is known for her live performances, with music that combines multiple genres including house, techno, disco and garage.

Holly Lester is an electronic dance music disc jockey from County Armagh, Northern Ireland. Lester is co-founder of the Free The Night advocacy organisation aimed at boosting the night-time economy in Northern Ireland.
