Recordland is one of Venezuela's largest music and video store chains. It is owned by Empresas 1BC, which is the same owner of Radio Caracas Radio and Radio Caracas Television (RCTV). Recordland opened in 1982 and now operates 22 stores located throughout the country. [1] On December 15, 2006, Tu Tienda RCTV, a gift shop which sells various products containing the logo of RCTV, ¿Quien Quiere Ser Millonario? , and RCTV's new telenovela, Te Tengo en Salsa , opened in the Recordland at the Centro Sambil in Caracas. Venezuela Republic in northern South America

Venezuela, officially the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, is a country on the northern coast of South America, consisting of a continental landmass and a large number of small islands and islets in the Caribbean Sea. The capital and largest urban agglomeration is the city of Caracas. It has a territorial extension of 916,445 km2. The continental territory is bordered on the north by the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by Colombia, Brazil on the south, Trinidad and Tobago to the north-east and on the east by Guyana. With this last country, the Venezuelan government maintains a claim for Guayana Esequiba over an area of 159,542 km2. For its maritime areas, it exercises sovereignty over 71,295 km2 of territorial waters, 22,224 km2 in its contiguous zone, 471,507 km2 of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean under the concept of exclusive economic zone, and 99,889 km2 of continental shelf. This marine area borders those of 13 states. The country has extremely high biodiversity and is ranked seventh in the world's list of nations with the most number of species. There are habitats ranging from the Andes Mountains in the west to the Amazon basin rain-forest in the south via extensive llanos plains, the Caribbean coast and the Orinoco River Delta in the east.

Empresas 1BC, is a privately owned Venezuelan corporation which operates diverse media enterprises such as Radio Caracas Televisión, Etheron, Radio Caracas Radio, 92.9 tu FM, Sonográfica, FonoVideo, Recordland, and Radionet, to name a few. This conglomerate is headed by Marcel Granier and headquartered in Caracas, Venezuela.

Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV) was a Venezuelan free-to-air television network headquartered in the Caracas neighborhood of Quinta Crespo. It was sometimes referred to as the Canal de Bárcenas. Owned by Empresas 1BC, Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV) was inaugurated on 15 November 1953 by William H. Phelps, Jr.. Its radio counterpart was Radio Caracas Radio.

<i>Primer Plano</i> (talk show) television series

Primer Plano is a Venezuelan television talk show, aired on Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV) and hosted by Marcel Granier, the current general director of RCTV and president of Empresas 1BC, the parent company of RCTV. The show debuted on 10 November 1976 with an interview of Diego Arria Salicetti, then governor of Caracas and has aired on-and-off since then. Primer Plano's most famous guest was Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez in 1998. Other important guest included Arturo Uslar Pietri, Henrique Salas Römer, Henrique Salas Feo, Irene Sáez, Valentina Quintero, and Andres Velázquez to name a few. The latest episode of Primer Plano took place on 30 November 2006 with an interview of Manuel Rosales, the current governor of Zulia and the then-opposition presidential candidate for the 2006 Venezuelan presidential elections.

El Observador was the Spanish language newscast of Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV). It is one of the first television news programs in Venezuela.

2007 RCTV protests

The RCTV protests were a series of protests in Venezuela that began in the middle of May 2007. The cause of the protests was the refusal by the government to renew the broadcasting license of Venezuela's oldest private television network, Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV), instead creating a new public service channel called TVes which began operations on 28 May, the same day RCTV's license expired. RCTV had Venezuela's largest viewing audience, with 10 million of the country's 26 million people viewing its shows and soap operas.

Television in Venezuela began in 1952 when the dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez launched the state channel Televisora Nacional, making Venezuela the ninth country in the world to have television. By 1963 a quarter of Venezuelan households had television; a figure rising to 45% by 1969 and 85% by 1982. Telenovelas are popular in Venezuela, and some Venezuelan productions are distributed internationally. Perhaps the best known television show internationally is however President Hugo Chávez' weekly talk show Aló Presidente, which began in 1999 and ended in 2012. El Diario de Caracas, was one of the best known newspapers of Venezuela. The paper was founded in 1979 by a group of investors who had the concern to launch a tabloid newspaper with a critical orientation both socio-culturally and politically. It was co-founded in 1979 by Diego Arria and the writer Tomás Eloy Martínez. Argentine exile, Rodolfo Terragno, was at one time its editor-in-chief. The Group 1BC, owner of RCTV, would subsequently obtain a majority shareholder stake in El Diario de Caracas taking its lead.
