The Red Barn is a recreational facility at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Located on the west end of the RIT campus, the large, red-painted barn is the site of the university's Outdoor Education program. [1] It is perhaps best known for its rock climbing and bouldering facilities.

The goal is to reach the summit of a formation or the endpoint of a usually pre-defined route without falling. Professional rock climbing competitions have the objectives of either completing the route in the quickest possible time or attaining the farthest point on an increasingly difficult route.

Bouldering Form of rock climbing

Bouldering is a form of rock climbing that is performed on small rock formations or artificial rock walls without the use of ropes or harnesses. While it can be done without any equipment, most climbers use climbing shoes to help secure footholds, chalk to keep their hands dry and provide a firmer grip, and bouldering mats to prevent injuries from falls. Unlike free solo climbing, which is also performed without ropes, bouldering problems are usually less than 6 meters (20 ft.) tall. Traverses, which are a form of boulder problem, require the climber to climb horizontally from one end to another. Artificial climbing walls allow boulderers to train indoors in areas without natural boulders. In addition, bouldering competitions take place in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Rock climbing

The Red Barn's 5,000 square feet (460 m2) of climbing surface [2] is spread across what was once a large top roping wall, a tower beside it, and a top-out boulder on the first floor. There is also a basement that features climbing on the ceiling. A majority of the basement wall/ceiling space are full of areas to climb, and very little square footage is wasted. The climbing holds are regularly rearranged to create new problems.

Though the Red Barn is part of the Rochester Institute of Technology Center for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation department, its climbing facilities are open to the public on a limited basis, with memberships and day passes offered. Non-students are charged a higher price. Climbing shoes are also available for rent.

The B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences is one of the largest colleges at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and is home to the institute’s computing education and research facilities. Golisano College is home to RIT’s computer science, computing security, information sciences and technologies, and software engineering departments, and to the Ph.D. program in computing and information sciences, and the School of Interactive Games & Media. Golisano College is housed in a 125,000 square foot facility, opened in 2003 on RIT’s campus in Rochester, New York.

UC Riverside Student Recreation Center

The UC Riverside Student Recreation Center is available to UCR students for physical fitness, sport activities and general recreational use.

Frank Ritter Memorial Ice Arena

The Frank Ritter Memorial Ice Arena, known colloquially as "The Ritter", is an ice arena on the campus of the Rochester Institute of Technology in Henrietta, a suburb of Rochester, New York, United States. It is the former home to the RIT Tigers ice hockey teams and current home to the Genesee Figure Skating Club. Its official capacity for ice hockey games is 2,100.

RIT Ambulance

RIT Ambulance (RITA) is a community run, 911 dispatched, volunteer collegiate New York State Certified Basic Life Support Ambulance Agency, run under the Rochester Institute of Technology Student Health Center. The ambulance serves the entire Rochester Institute of Technology campus.

Merle Richard Rose was an American academic. He was the tenth president of Alfred University from 1974 until 1978, when he left to become the seventh president of the Rochester Institute of Technology from 1979 until 1992.

NJIT Highlanders

The NJIT Highlanders, formerly the New Jersey Tech Highlanders, are the varsity sport members of the Division I NCAA-affiliated sports teams of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). There are ten men's teams, seven women's teams, and three club teams along with a variety of intramural teams. The school's primary conference is the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN). In November 2017 NJIT opened the Wellness and Events Center (WEC) which incorporates upgraded facilities for most Division 1 sports including a 3,500 seat arena for Basketball and Volleyball.

RIT Tigers

The RIT Tigers are composed of 22 teams representing Rochester Institute of Technology in intercollegiate athletics, including men and women's basketball, crew, cross country, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, and track and field. Men's sports include baseball and wrestling. Women's sports include softball, and volleyball. The Tigers compete in the NCAA Division III and are members of the Liberty League for all sports except ice hockey, which competes in NCAA Division I. The men's ice hockey team is a member of Atlantic Hockey, while the women's ice hockey team is a member of College Hockey America.

Colorado–Colorado Springs Mountain Lions

The UCCS Mountain Lions is the official name of the athletic teams that represent the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Mountain Lions compete as members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference for all 16 varsity sports. The school mascot is the mountain lion, Clyde, with official colors of gold and black, the same de facto school colors of University of Colorado Boulder.

The Rocks and Boulder Cove, the climbing area at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve located in Fayette and Raleigh Counties, near Beckley, is the largest man-made climbing facility in the world.
