The 1976 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXI Olympiad and commonly known as Montreal 1976, were an international multi-sport event held from July 17 to August 1, 1976 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Montreal was awarded the rights to the 1976 Games at the 69th IOC Session in Amsterdam on May 12, 1970, over the bids of Moscow and Los Angeles. It was the first and, so far, only Summer Olympic Games to be held in Canada. Toronto hosted the 1976 Summer Paralympics the same year as the Montreal Olympics, which still remains the only Summer Paralympics to be held in Canada. Calgary and Vancouver later hosted the Winter Olympic Games in 1988 and 2010, respectively.
Mark Roger Tewksbury, is a Canadian former competitive swimmer. He is best known for winning the gold medal in the 100-metre backstroke at the 1992 Summer Olympics. He also hosted the first season of How It's Made, a Canadian documentary series, in 2001.
Brent Matthew Hayden is a Canadian competitive swimmer. Representing Canada for a decade, Hayden is regarded as the fastest swimmer in Canadian history. Hayden won a bronze medal in the 100 m freestyle at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London with a time of 47.80, and was world champion in the same event in 2007 with Filippo Magnini of Italy. By winning the 100 metre, Hayden became the first Canadian in 21 years to win a gold medal at the World Aquatics Championships, and was also the first Canadian to appear in the 100 metre final at the Olympics since Dick Pound at the 1960 Summer Olympics, and the first Canadian to win an Olympic medal in the 100 metre. Hayden added a further three silver and one bronze medal to his World Championship totals.
Stephen Giles is a Canadian sprint canoeist who competed from the early 1990s to the mid 2000s. Competing in four Summer Olympics, he won the bronze in the C-1 1000 m event at Sydney in 2000.

Dean Oldershaw is a Canadian sprint canoeist and kayaker who competed in the early to mid-1970s. At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, he was eliminated in the semifinals of the K-1 1000 m and K-4 1000 m events. Four years later in Montreal, Oldershaw was eliminated in the semifinals of the K-1 500 m event.
Scott Oldershaw is a Canadian sprint kayaker who competed in the mid-1980s. He was eliminated in the semifinals of the K-1 500 m event at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He later became head coach at the Burloak Canoe Club in Oakville, Ontario, leading them to national titles in 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2007 and coaching Olympic gold medallist Adam van Koeverden and Olympic bronze medalist Mark Oldershaw. He continued his coaching career with the Canadian National Team, and was named national Head Coach in 2012.

Canada, represented by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. Canadian athletes have competed in every Summer Olympic Games since 1900, except the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow because of the country's support for the United States-led boycott. Canada sent a total of 281 athletes to the Games to compete in 24 sports. The COC set a goal of finishing in the top 12 for total medals; but the nation failed to achieve this, finishing with a total of 18 medals. Canada matched its total medal count from Beijing 2008. At London, with the initiation of its "Own the Podium" programme, Canada finished 13th in total medals, thus improving on its 14th place performance in Beijing while falling somewhat short of its self-declared goal of 12th position. It finished the event with 18 medals: two gold, five silver and 11 bronze.
Gabriel "Gabe" Bergen is a Canadian rower. Bergen won a silver medal as part of the men's eights for Canada at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He has also won one medal of every colour at the World Championships including being champion in the coxed pair in 2008 and a silver and a bronze in the eights in 2009 and 2011 respectively.
