Reel to Real (Canadian TV series)

Last updated

'Reel to Real was a Canadian television series focused on film, which aired on the Rogers TV network of community channels and nationally on the Independent Film Channel. Throughout its run, the show was hosted by a variety of prominent Toronto-area film critics, including Christopher Heard, John Foote, Katrina Onstad, Richard Crouse, and Geoff Pevere.[1]

History The series premiered in 1992, initially produced by the Rogers Cable division in Oshawa, Ontario, with Heard and Foote as the original hosts.[2] The following year, it was picked up for province-wide distribution, and production was moved to Toronto.[2] By the late 1990s, the program's distribution expanded to all Rogers TV outlets across Canada.[3]

Beginning in 1997, the weekly series adopted a special daily broadcast format during the annual Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).[4]

Cancellation Reel to Real was cancelled in 2008. The cancellation followed a new sponsorship deal between Bell Canada and TIFF, which significantly limited Rogers' ability to provide substantive coverage of the festival.[1]
