Reen Bessie Kachere (24 April 1954 - 1 August 2022) [1] [2] was a Malawian politician. She was the minister of gender, child and community development. [3] Prior to the September 2011 cabinet reshuffle, she served as the minister for persons with disabilities and the rlderly. [4] She was a member of the parliament for the Neno West Constituency.
In 2011 political tensions between former parliamentarian for Neno West Constituency Mark Katsonga Phiri and Kachere developed over development projects in the constituency. [5] She blocked attempts by Katsonga to rehabilitate of boreholes and roads because Kachere accused Katsonga of having political motivations behind the projects. It is an ongoing issue but no projects have been implemented. [5]

An educator and grassroots women's rights activist, she was the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2009 and the Vice-President of Malawi from May 2009 to April 2012. She has served in various roles as a member of Parliament and as Minister of Gender and Child Welfare before she became the President of the Republic of Malawi.
Madame Callista Chapola-Chimombo is a Malawian politician and the widow of President Bingu wa Mutharika. She served as the First Lady of the Republic of Malawi from 2010 to 2012. Chimombo is a previous member of the Cabinet of Malawi as a National Coordinator of Maternal, Infant and Child Health and HIV/Nutrition/Malaria and Tuberculosis.
Neno is a district in the Southern Region of Malawi. The district has a 2016 population of approximately 158,000. District Mwanza in 2003 was split into two districts, Neno and Mwanza, under the decentralisation program.
Susanna Al-Hassan or Susan Alhassan was a Ghanaian author and politician, who in 1961 became Ghana's first female to be appointed minister. She was the first African woman to hold a cabinet portfolio and became the member of parliament for the then Northern Region parliamentary constituency between 1960 and 1966.
