Rhodesleigh, also known as the Rhodes Mansion, is a historic residence in Lakewood, Washington. Architects involved in its design included Ambrose J. Russell and Frederick Heath.

The house is located at 10815 Greendale Drive, built in 1922. The Rhodes Brothers were involved in the retail trade and had Rhodes department stores in Tacoma and other areas. The business was established in 1892 as a coffee shop in downtown Tacoma by Albert, William, Henry, and Charles Rhodes.

The 12,600-square-foot (1,170 m2) 1921 house with its 8+ bedrooms and 7+ bathrooms was on sale in 2009 for $3.4 million. [2] Its carriage house (built later in 1941) at 10914 Greendale was also up for sale. [3] It is located on Lake Steilacoom. According to the broker's website it was built in memory of Edward Rhodes "who served and paid the ultimate sacrifice in World War I". [2]

Vigor Shipyards

Vigor Shipyards was founded in 1916 as the William H. Todd Corporation through the merger of Robins Dry Dock & Repair Company of Erie Basin, Brooklyn, New York, the Tietjen & Long Dry Dock Company of Hoboken, New Jersey, and the Seattle Construction and Dry Dock Company. The Seattle shipyard could trace its history back to 1882, when Robert Moran opened a marine repair shop at Yesler's Wharf. This shop became the Moran Brothers Shipyard in 1906 and the Seattle Construction & Dry Dock Company at the end of 1911.

Lakewood Towne Center is a shopping center located in Lakewood, Washington, a suburb of Tacoma. Lakewood Towne Center was created when MBK Northwest bought and demolished the enclosed portion of the failing Lakewood Mall in 2001, and turned the site into an open air destination by creating four distinct components, including a civic center with a city hall as its centerpiece, a power center, entertainment center, and a neighborhood center. Lakewood Mall itself had been a replacement for the outdoor Villa Plaza Shopping Center.

Richmond Shipyards United States historic place

The four Richmond Shipyards, located in the city of Richmond, California, United States, were run by Permanente Metals and part of the Kaiser Shipyards. During World War II, Richmond built more ships than any other shipyard, turning out as many as three ships in a single day. The shipyards are part of the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park, whose the Rosie the Riveter memorial honors the shipyard workers. Shipyard #3 is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a California Historical Landmark # 1032.

Ashford Mansion United States historic place

The Ashford Mansion, also known as the Ashford House is a turn of the 20th century residence located in Ashford, Washington. The house was built in 1903, in the Colonial Revival style by Cora Ashford, for whom the town of Ashford is also named. The building was constructed of solid grain Douglas Fir, with a porch enclosing three sides of the main floor and a covered veranda on each end of the second floor. The mansion is located in south Pierce County, seven miles from the Nisqually River Entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. From the time of its construction until 1967 the mansion stayed in the Ashford family. After its sale the mansion served at different times as a private residence, an English-style bed and breakfast, and is currently rent-able for various functions.

Thornewood United States historic place

Thornewood is an estate in what is now Lakewood, Washington. The estate consists of three buildings, including Thornewood Castle, which was built from the brick of a dismantled 15th-century house imported from England. The Castle was used as a set for the Stephen King film Rose Red.

The Tacoma Mall is the largest shopping center in Tacoma, Washington, and is owned and operated by the Simon Property Group. Anchor tenants include Dick's Sporting Goods, JCPenney, Macy's, and Nordstrom, with one vacant anchor last occupied by Sears, which opened in 1981. The mall opened on October 13, 1965. Another former anchor was Liberty House, which opened in 1974, which was demolished for the current location of Nordstrom, which relocated from an anchor that was originally Nordstrom Best, with the Best name dropped in 1972, and expanded from 55,000 square feet to 134,000 square feet in 1983, in 2008. The former Nordstrom was divided into Sephora, Apple Store, and Forever 21 in 2010. Rhodes House (Tacoma)

The Rhodes House or Henry A. and Birdella Rhodes House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Henry Rhodes had Ambrose J. Russell and Frederick Heath design and build the house in 1901.

Oakland Alternative High School is an alternative secondary school in Tacoma, Washington. It was built in 1912 by a prominent local architectural firm and is located at 3319 South Adams Street.

Urban Grace Church

Urban Grace Church, formerly First Baptist Church, was built in a Gothic Revival style in 1924 by Heath, Gove and Bell in Tacoma, Washington. The building's 53 rooms include an auditorium with 1,250 seats, a 500-seat banquet hall with stage, a kitchen, nursery room, small chapel, choir rooms, and the pastor's study. It is believed to be the oldest continuously used location for Christian religious services in the city. The congregation remains active. The church was originally Baptist, but is now interdenominational, combining Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Lutheran practices.

Sutton & Whitney

Sutton & Whitney was an architecture firm based in Portland, Oregon, United States, operating from 1912 to 1950. Its principal partners were Albert Sutton (1866–1923) and Harrison A. Whitney (1877–1962). In 1934, it became Sutton, Whitney & Aandahl, after full membership was granted to Frederick Aandahl (1887–1950), who had already been working for the firm as chief draftsman since 1919 and as an associate since 1923.
