Rhos Goch National Nature Reserve, located near Painscastle on the England/Wales border, is one of the largest raised bogs in mid and south Wales.
‘Goch’ is Welsh for ‘red’, and in autumn the bog accordingly becomes a stunning carpet of red and gold. Many birds and insects love the reserve's diverse and little-disturbed habitats. Curlew and lapwing feed here in the winter, and in summer the swamp is alive with the calls of the willow warbler and reed bunting, the air shimmering with dragonflies and damselflies.
Cuneglasus was a prince of Rhos in Gwynedd, Wales, in the late 5th or early 6th century. He was castigated for various sins by Gildas in De Excidio Britanniae. The Welsh form Cynlas Goch is attested in several genealogies of the Rhos royal line. The two names are assumed to refer to the same ruler.
Drygarn Fawr is a mountain in the county of Powys, Wales. It is one of the highest summits in Mid Wales standing at 645 metres or 2114 feet above sea level. It lies to the south of the Elan Valley Reservoirs. Rising above the remote moorland plateau of the Cambrian Mountains, and to the west of the peaks of Radnor Forest, the summit is topped by two distinctive, large cairns. The mountain has a gentle, grassy, conical shape with a few rocks near the summit. Nearby are the summits of Gorllwyn, Y Gamriw, and Drum yr Eira all over 600m.

Ynys-hir RSPB reserve is a nature reserve of the RSPB situated beside the Dyfi estuary in Ceredigion, mid Wales between Aberystwyth and Machynlleth. The reserve covers 550 hectares and includes a variety of habitats extending inland from mudflats and salt marsh through farmland and pools to oak woodland and hillside scrub. Facilities include a small visitor centre and seven hides.

Denbigh Moors is an upland region in Conwy and Denbighshire in north-east Wales, between Snowdonia and the Clwydian Range. It includes the large reservoirs Llyn Brenig and Llyn Alwen, and the Clocaenog Forest, which has one of Wales's last populations of red squirrels. It also contains the open heath Hafod Elwy Moor National Nature Reserve.
The Beacons Way is a waymarked long distance footpath in the Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales. It is a linear route which runs for 99 miles (159 km) east to west through the National Park, and passes many of the most important landmarks and mountain peaks in the mountain range. It also includes a few of the towns in the park as well as popular attractions such as Carreg Cennen Castle near Llandeilo at the western end of the path.
The Dolgoch Falls are a series of three waterfalls near Tywyn in Gwynedd, North Wales. The falls are part of the Nant Dol-gôch stream, which flows into the Afon Fathew, and form a popular walk from the nearby Dolgoch station on the Talyllyn Railway.
Waun Garnedd-y-filiast is a top of Carnedd y Filiast on the border of the Snowdonia National park near Cerrigydrudion in North Wales. It is part of the Arenig mountain range. It is also a peak in an area of moorland known as the Migneint.
Rhos Dirion is a top of Waun Fach in the Black Mountains in south-eastern Wales. It is the highest point on the Rhos Dirion - Chwarel y Fan ridge.
Cors Goch National Nature Reserve is principally a fen in a shallow valley near the village of Llanbedrgoch, on the eastern side of Anglesey. The site is managed by the North Wales Wildlife Trust and also includes calcareous heath, meadow and an acid heath overlain on millstone grit. There is some area of open water including Llyn Cadarn but much is marsh or shallow bog which supports a species rich ecosystem dominated by reeds. A number of rare plants and animals are able to flourish in this environment, including great crested newt and adders. The medicinal leech and glow worm have also been found here. The site is managed by the North Wales Wildlife Trust.
Cors Goch National Nature Reserve, a couple of miles west of Carmarthen and near the hamlet of Llanllwch, is one of the few raised bogs in West Wales. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
Cors y Llyn National Nature Reserve can be found about 2.5 kilometres south of Newbridge on Wye, off the A470 road in mid-Wales.

The Bachawy is a minor river in Powys, Wales. It rises in the hills north of Painscastle, flowing initially to the southeast before turning to the southwest at Rhos-goch, assuming a more westerly direction at Painscastle then wrapping around the western end of the Begwns as it drops into a wooded gorge to join the River Wye as a left-bank tributary near to Erwood. Rain falling on the southern slopes of Llanbedr Hill and the northern slopes of the Begwns makes its way into the Bachawy. Much of the Bachawy's valley is developed in Silurian age mudstones and siltstones and parts are aligned with the Church Stretton Fault Zone. The lower gorge is cut in part through late Silurian age Raglan Mudstone Formation which forms the lowest part of the Old Red Sandstone.
