Rhyme Asylum was an English, London-based hip hop group formed in 2002 by MCs Possessed, Psiklone and Skirmish. Leatherface and Plazma (who did not return for the second album) joined in 2004. [1]

Contents

The group are known for their vivid imagery, complex wordplay and intricate rhyme schemes. Despite remaining unsigned, they have amassed a growing cult following.[ citation needed ]

Biography

Their recognition originates from the Deal Real open mic sessions between 2004 and 2005. [2] Their debut album State of Lunacy was released in June 2008 and featured US rappers Copywrite and Diabolic. [3] Both Plazma and Leatherface left the group shortly after the release of State of Lunacy .

Their second album Solitary Confinement was released in April 2010 featuring Crooked I, Ill Bill and frequent collaborator Reain. [4] For the first time, Rhyme Asylum recruited outside producers. [4]

Later in 2010, the group released Solitary Confinement: The Overdose EP on 12" vinyl. [5] The EP contains eight songs from Solitary Confinement and was launched at a Dilated Peoples & Rhyme Asylum show in Hamburg, Germany. [6]

Rhyme Asylum have performed across the UK and Europe. [7] [8]

His first mixtape, 2004's The Prince of Thieves, single-handedly sold 9000 copies on the streets of London and other cities spring one single called "Warfare Part II" featuring Serious.

John R. Austin II, better known by his stage name Ras Kass, is an American rapper. He is a member of the hip hop supergroup The HRSMN, along with Canibus, Killah Priest, and Kurupt in 2014. He is also a member of the group Golden State Warriors with Xzibit and Saafir. About.com ranked him No. 30 on their list of the Top 50 MCs of Our Time (1987–2007), while Pitchfork Media called him "one of the best rappers of all time".

DJ Skitz or Skitz is a British DJ and music producer. He was born in 1970 in Cambridgeshire and started DJing in 1991. He has compiled a number of British hip hop compilations and other hip hop compilations. Along with Rodney P, he produced the first track to ever be played on BBC Radio 1Xtra in 2002, when the station launched; the BBC called Skitz a "hip-hop star". They also presented a weekly show on the station called "Original Fever", which formed the backbone of the radio station, until 2007. The Independent considered it the "show of the week" on the radio station. In 2008 he competed in the DMC UK DJ Championship. He had also created his own record label, Titan Sounds.

The Gospel: The Missing Gems of MCM Caveman is the first solo studio album release by veteran UK Hip-Hop artist MCM, real name Mark Layman. MCM originally was the front man for 1990s UK Hip-Hop group Caveman. It contains recordings from 1994 to 2011.

The Brotherhood were a pioneering UK hip-hop group with a solid following across the UK from the early 1990s. Releases with seminal UK Hip Hop label Bite It! Recordings were followed by a later move to Virgin. The 1996 album Elementalz has been described as one of the best UK hip hop albums ever made and "a staggering achievement in British music". The band finally split in 1998 and have since been credited as one of the most influential bands on the 90s UK hip-hop scene.

Omar Rogelio Tull, better known by his stage name PackFM, is an American Underground hip hop artist and producer from Brooklyn, New York City. As a teenager in the mid-1990s, PackFM began his battle career, winning numerous prestigious freestyle titles. These wins include the 88HipHop MC Battle Champion, where he was inducted into their Hall of Fame after four undefeated months, Braggin Rites tournament in 1999, Everlast Harlem Lyricist Championship in 2003, and three undefeated months in the 24 Hour MC Battle sponsored by TDK.

Joe Christie, better known as Braintax, is a British rapper and record producer. Christie had also recorded or appeared under the pseudonyms Brando Flux and Joey Brains. All of his releases were on his own record label, Low Life Records.
