Riccardo Zancano (born 1971 in Trieste) is an Italian contemporary painter and hard stone carver. [1] He specializes in contemporary aesthetics addressing symbolic and naturalistic themes, free from academic formalisms. [2] [3]
Riccardo Zancano was born in Trieste in 1971 to merchant parents. He approaches the world of art at the end of the nineties. He attended courses in gemology and precious stone cutting. In 2003, he obtained the title of "Master of Art" in the discipline of "Art of semi-precious stones and gems" at the “B. Cellini” of Valenza. In 2012, he obtained his high school education diploma with an artistic orientation at the “E. and U. Nordio” of Trieste in the Pictorial decoration section. He later attended life drawing courses at the Trieste Comics Academy. He later exhibited with Spoleto Arte at the Museum Gipsoteca canoviana. [4] In 2017, he took part in one abstract painting internship at the School of Seein in Trieste. [5]
The artistic narrative pursues naturalistic themes through classical painting, symbolic and interior themes, with the support of carved stones. Free from academic formalisms and distant by choice from the historical context, he undertakes an artistic research in the footsteps of Gustave Moreau, seeking and finding what cannot be seen through modern symbolism. Artist included in Enciclopedia d'Arte Italiana, Catalogo Generale Artisti dal Novecento ad oggi. [6] He joined the historic art association Cento Pittori via Margutta in 2024. The essays on the artist in the solo exhibitions have been curated by Alberto Moioli, [7] Luigi Salvatori, Cristoforo Russo and Roberto Luciani. [8]
