Christopher Samuel "Kit" Bond is an American attorney,politician and former United States Senator from Missouri and a member of the Republican Party. First elected to the U.S. Senate in 1986,he defeated Democrat Harriett Woods by a margin of 53%–47%. He was re-elected in 1992,1998,and 2004. On January 8,2009,he announced that he would not seek re-election to a fifth term in 2010,and was succeeded by fellow Republican Roy Blunt on January 3,2011. Following his retirement from the Senate,Bond became a partner at Thompson Coburn.

He served as the first director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) from 2012 to 2017. Before that,Cordray variously served as Ohio's attorney general,solicitor general,and treasurer. He was the Democratic nominee for governor of Ohio in 2018.

Same-sex marriage in Missouri is legal under the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges,which struck down state bans on marriages between two people of the same sex on June 26,2015. Prior to the court ruling,the state recognized same-sex marriages from other jurisdictions pursuant to a state court ruling in October 2014,and certain jurisdictions of the state performed same-sex marriage despite a statewide ban.

Incumbent Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton is not term-limited as Texas does not prescribe term limits for state-wide elected officials. He is running for reelection. Paxton is under an ethics cloud and has drawn several intra-party challengers who have made his legal troubles a centerpiece of their primary campaigns and point of distinction,while not distinguishing themselves on their ideology.
