Richard M. Romero (born July 21,1944) is an American educator and politician who served as a member of the New Mexico Senate from 1992 to 2004.
Born in Oakland,California,Romero received in bachelor's degree from the University of Albuquerque and his master's degree from New Mexico State University.
After serving in the United States Air Force,Romero was a high school principal and financial planner in Albuquerque,New Mexico. From 1985 to 1987,Romero was superintendent of Albuquerque Public Schools. [1] From 1992 to 2004,Romero served in the New Mexico State Senate as a Democrat. Romero served as president pro tempore of the New Mexico Senate in 2001. [2] [3]
Pietro Vichi "Pete" Domenici was an American attorney and politician who served as a United States Senator from New Mexico from 1973 to 2009. A member of the Republican Party, he served six terms in the Senate, making him the longest-tenured U.S. Senator in the state's history. To date, Domenici is the last Republican to be elected to the Senate from New Mexico. He was succeeded by Democratic U.S. Representative Tom Udall.

He served as the Executive Director of ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability USA. and Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Center for Green Schools at U.S. Green Building Council. In 2012, he unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for the Congressional seat being vacated by Martin Heinrich, who retired from the House to run for Senate.

Edwin Leard Mechem was an American attorney, politician, and jurist from New Mexico. He served as the 15th, 17th, and 19th governor of New Mexico, the first person born in the 20th century to become the state's governor, as well as the first person born in New Mexico after statehood to ascend to the office. During his final term as governor, Mechem appointed himself as a United States Senator, pursuant to the Seventeenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. During his tenure, he was one of five non-Southern Republicans in the Senate to vote against the Civil Rights Act 1964. He later served as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico.
